Kryptonite Anti Theft Offer

  • Anyone had any experience of it?

  • Hmm I find it hard to believe no one has never had their bike nicked with a krypto lock.

  • Some (lots) of Krypto locks were susceptible to 'bump' picking. It could be achieved with a BIC pen!

  • deyve fixed dat now inwa

  • Don't believe the hype, caveat-city.
It is only if your bike is locked to the false-leg of an on-duty Police officer, on a Thursday, on a night with a full moon when Virgo is ascendant in the house of Jupiter, and you have a photo of it locked-up posed with half the cast of Holby city.

P.S. The newer Krypto-locks (with rotating barrels) are not susceptible to 'bump' type attacks.

  • Lois is right, they fixed that a while back.

Hmm, ok. It just seems too good to be true, you know? I think I might have to just shell out for insurance.

  • I realise they fixed it.. just indicating the high potential that people have had stuff nicked while "locked" with a Krypto lock.
    Check the fine print.

  • hippy Check the fine print.

I know; there seems to be very little.

  • This has some info about the anti-theft offer..

  • Wire or one of those mountaineering thingies through the links so you can join 'em through a closer link for skinnier peeps?

  • I've used an old leather strap and large key ring to provide a locking poing for carrying a Fug chain. Lots of things can be used.

As you say, just make sure you don't actually use lock up to your new carrying point.

  • scott not scot aah....a carabina you mean.....thats a grand idea.....i just gotta remember not to put the lock through the carabina when i lock it up...:)

That's the one! Where'd you get your lock/chain from? I want to get one to leave at work so I don't have to carry the bastard in every day..

  • Dr. Lois (agony aunt) to the rescue!

Sounds good but what if the theif doesn't leave your lock at the scene of the crime??

    Kryptonite Web Page

My bike/vehicle was stolen while locked with a Kryptonite lock and I have registered for the anti-theft protection offer. What do I do?

We are so sorry to hear about your loss. Here is what Kryptonite will need from you:

       1. Send Kryptonite a notice of the theft within seven (7) days of the theft. We suggest sending this via certified mail.
       2. Send the following to Kryptonite within 90 days:
             1. the broken lock and/or broken links
             2. at least one key (not both keys, as has been reported...just one)
             3. a copy of the police report
             4. evidence that you have notified your insurance company, if applicable

These are the basics. If you do not have your product insert any longer and would like the full information, please let us know when you file your claim and we will send a copy to you right away.

Why do I need to send back a piece of the broken lock as part of my claim?

Our engineers inspect every single lock that comes back to Kryptonite. This is part of the process in making changes to products to make them even better. We value this information a great deal. We also need a piece of the lock back as proof of lock failure.

Why do I need to send back a key as part of my claim?

Unfortunately, there are dishonest people out there – if there weren't, you wouldn't need locks, right? We need one key back as proof that this is, indeed, your lock and not something found on the street.

  • scott not scot sounds to me like its worth angle grinding a link off the end of my chain and keeping it safe at home so that if my bike ever gets nicked and the thieving scum isn't kind enough to leave me any evidence...i can send em that!

    Smart idea that.

  • If, like me, you've got an old cylindrical lock Kryptonite, check this out... http://www.kryptonitesettlement.com
Dunno if this is old news to you guys or not, unfortunately doesn't apply to those of us who reside outside the US/Canada... Grrr...
Had to buy a new Manhattan 3000 today to replace my perfectly functioning but Bic-able Kryptonite New York lock... Double Grrr...

  • what is it? it wants me to enable cookies but i can't be arsed.

  • Just watched those (^^^^^^) films - its some London TV show about bikes getting nicked - it's interesting to see the coppers actually doing something about it, and interesting to hear someone put it in an 'economic' perspective - bike theft is costing Londonerrs 20 something million quid a year! Message from that lot is... expensive bike locks aren't fantastic, but nowhere near as shit as cheap ones, but I think we've all worked that out for ourselves. And if you buy off a random geezer down the market, your making it worse - again bit obvious really, but the kid in the 2nd video couldn't work that out. Worth a watch though just for seeing bike thieves getting jumped on by coppers. I always knew the flouro crew were up to no good...

  • so has anyone ever successfully claimed?

  • I had a dream about this the other night... I found my Mercian (or what was left of it) with two completely disassembled Krypto locks lying beside it... The wheels had been chopped so that only the top section of wheel was left with a cut spokes dangling from the rim, the covering on my Rolls saddle had been removed and various components had been rolled flat, like a steamroller had gone over them... Bizarre... A bystander (in the dream) reminded me I could probably get Kryptonite to pay cuz I had the remainder of both locks... Weird, weird and bloody weird...

  • is that your way of telling me 'i'm dreaming' if i think the offer of free bike insurance is worth the paper its printed on?

  • Full details of the Terns & Conditions posted here.
