  • Anyone got a map/directions of the long ride route?

  • I like the picture of the passed out guy.

Looks good I was termpted by it but the way my work is going at the moment I don't think I can afford to take friday off. Plus the pace sounds fast.

  • 90 miles in 9 hours!

  • well more like 7.5 hour really and there are quite a few hills getting lost e.t.c

  • How steep are these hills then?
    I've only got a fixt 48/16.
I have made the ride to Brighton several times but is this going to be a bridge to far anyone?

  • Is it possible to do it on a fix or a SS? Really want to go as I've got a friend who lives right next to stonehenge.

  • It's prob fine I am just paranoid and a pussy.

I would imagine the route would be something like this

    http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1046258

just a guess. I have not taken every bend in so that is prob why it is too short.

  • It does look cool... everyone in winston's photos is geared though...

  • Bill said you 'could' do it fixed but he or the guy who's organising it requested gears because of the time-critical finish.
Probably doesn't wanna be waiting for you slow fixers to bust a lung up some hills and then miss the sunrise.. ;)

  • It just makes it so much harder to ride as a group if some of you are geared and some not.

I mean whatever is cool, I guess. No one's going to stop anyone from riding. It's a free country after all. But here's a 'how-not-to'. The young lady in the pictures hadn't ridden a bike for 9 months and borrowed a bike that was much too big for this ride. At Basingstoke, which is about 1/2 way, she was in a lot of difficulty. She asked us to leave here there. But it was 2am in the morning! So we nursed her the rest of the way. Credit to her for digging in, but really!

  • How many lfgss are going? If any? I'm getting desperate to fit in 'training' kays before the Etape.. this could be a helper.

Bill: Would a 5w Dinotte LED light be sufficient for this ride?

  • Uhhh, have no idea what that is. Most people will have lights, so I wouldn't worry too much. 5w sounds about a lot. Or enough. To be honest, I try leave my lights off on this ride, as it tends to be so light that you get your night-vision going.

  • Hippy, you fancy doing it fixed? I should have finished building my new bike by then.

  • Buffalo Bill it tends to be so light that you get your night-vision going.

    That sounds promising. Cheers!

photoben: Sorry mate, my fixies are gathering dust while I bend and break my poor body in a futile attempt to get used to the Ribble for longer rides.
Once I've got the Etape and Dynamo out of the way I'll get the Soma sorted out for the longer stuff (as well as getting a fitted for a new road bike).

  • Happy summer solstice riding druidic fixie skidders!
