Polo conversion

I picked up a frame for dead cheap that will be the foundation for a polo and general shenanigans bike.

The frame is a Swinnerton touring frame, about 30 years old by the look of it. I'll have pics of it once I strip it of the stuff it currently has on it and clean it up.

What I now need is a decent supply of stuff to throw on it, cheap as chips, and the guidance on the mechanical side of things.

The head I think will be OK, same with the bottom bracket.

Things I need to find:

If anyone has spares that want to get rid of and want to see them recycled for fun, then please let me know.

I'll use this thread to document the conversion as I go along, and I'm sure it will involve some problems along the way :)

I saw 4 bikes by the side of the road today, old road bikes. There was a sign there saying £10 each, call 07xx whatever. They weren't very good bikes, but one of the peugeots had a campagnolo water bottle which i duly took and left 40p on the saddle...

ANYway, i can sort you out for a saddle if you want, and small chainrings, and a chain, cranks if you want some, probably a stem (1.125?), and i can give u a front wheel if u want. Can't really give you ALL this gratis, so £20?

I'll get the thing cleaned and stripped before I take anything off your hands. Want to get measurements and stuff to make sure I acquire stuff that fits :) I'll try and do this in the next two days.

Heh. 100 quid? I could sell the campy downtube shifters and the Freddie Grubbs headbadge off my polo bike and make a hefty profit!

I'd rather spend none of it, but I'm not going to take the piss, and unfortunately I gave away all my spares before I thought of making a polo bike.

I'm after the cheapest 125mm hub I can find, cos my polo one is buggered as some of you experienced yesterday ;)

Think the best I can find is at SJS for around 25 quid.

ok, just checked - the biggest spare cog i have is actually 19t. Still yours if you want it

diki i have the risers for you, but forgot the mesurments (doh)

DaidK seems like your sorted, i got bits and bobs lying around, a 38t front chainring on strippedish nuts to 170mill cranks you can have, arrious bits and bobs.

chris when do you want to do the switch are they risers or flats ? where are the bars can bring the frame over anytime this week let me know

i bought for 37 let you have it for 35 i am trying to recoup a bit of cash currently

Shit, I looked around my flat this morning at the mess and wondered where I've actually been sleeping. The place is a tip. I need to spring clean this weekend, and then get to work on stripping the frame.
