Yes you need to get it removed. Try a hammer and chisel to free it off and hit it round a bit. Remember that if your bike has a standard 68 mm bottombraket shell the non drive side is LHT (sorry if you know that but I have met people that have been riding for a long time and don't know that).
Edit: my mistake drive side is LHT. I always need to work it out.

Weird that you're having problems with the non-drive (adjustable) side, its normal the drive (fixed) side thats the bugger.

So have you manged to remove the locknut on the non drive side?
If so and you are planning on throwing the old bb away there should be enough threads exposed for some pipe grips should to grip onto and twist the bugger out. They should not slip and will have good leverage.

messure the bb shell 68 mm means euro / british iso
70mm mean italian
I would guess english / iso.
American b.b are not threaded at all. Still found on some bmx bikes, (but they have largly moved over to spanish / mid bb) and alot of beach bike with one piece crank.http://www.sheldonbrown.com/gloss_bo-z.html
Sheldon has the answers!
I got it wrong the bit up top it is the drive side that is lht on iso cranks I always need to work it out.

ahh got it, so its ISO then...
right so i mashed up my BB playing polo, and have decied instead of buying more barings, im going to fit the sealed bb i was given. now i can get half of my old bb caps off (the drive side caps) and i broke my lock ring tool on the non-drive cap. if i take the plastic non-drive side bit off the sealed bb, and just screw in the metel one from the drive side will it hold, or do i need to head to the lbs, and see if they can get the other cap off?
