aidan theres quite a negative vibe coming from all these oh so special messengers aint there
Totally. I can understand a messenger discount, but to label all others with negative terminology is just a bit shitty.

yeah i was only playing...

the european court of human rights would come down hard on that kind of blatant descrimination

Ditto. I am not sure I even understand the discount, but the attempt at insult doesn't really inspire me to want to take part. I am cool with entering races I won't win for good fun and comraderie, but I am am nobody's fool to be sneered at and charged more. I'll be paying attention to comments about what I should ride and how from they guy who bought me my bike, but I cannot see why I should care otherwise.
Happy to ride with everyone, but that assumes a modicum of friendliness.

OK, the poster comes off as a little, well, up itself, and over-sensitive. It's not an attempt at an insult, it's meant to be a joke (I think), though.
But don't you think you are responding in kind?
-
• #17
It's kinda hard to tell whether it's a joke or not. BTW, I don't think it's a discount for messengers, more a surcharge for non-messengers...

It's playing the disinterested role Buffalo Bill! It's like in the movies where a couple have lifes and atutudes that seem very diffrent and have diffrent aproaches. They try and out do each other with litttle remarks e.t.c Then one day there is a big fight and at the hight of the angar they both realise it is not angar tehy feel but sexual tension. Bang! They make love and live happly ever after and have children.
At the moment the messenger / fakenger thing is still building up to the fight, but I want to be there to see the fight, the love making and then the twisted children that will result.

:-)
You nailed it.
-
• #20
so this lovemaking thing, who gets to be the sponge? the courier or fakenger?
Bill, you have been both real and fake so does this mean you are bisexual? -
• #21
Most courier events are exactly that: invitation only....and that invite extended only to couriers.
What this flyer says to me is that these particular organisers are actually recognising the rise in interest in their culture and are actively opening the door to non-couriers welcomingly.
It's less a courier discount than a non-courier premium, which I think is fair enough, people like these guys have invested a lot of time and effort developing Alleycat race culture and want these events to maintain their authenticity, while growing to accept the wider cycling community....it's common practice in regualr cycling events to have different pricing structures for different categories (women, youths) to encourage more entries from them...is anybody offended by that?
Looks like a fun event and the more people who support it the better...any barracking, booing or sabotage from either side will be entirely good-natured I'm sure, it is after all a pirate race!
-
• #22
It's all banter!
I am not sure I fancy racing, I seem to be too accedent prone at the moment but I would not mind haing a look. Do you think a check point (other side of the road / out of the way of any people trying to get stamped e.t.c) would be a good place to watch some action?
-
• #23
I've entered a bunch of Alleycats and always paid the same price as Messengers - even at Tofu's leaving race! (Tofu was a notoriously anti-fakenger courier in London)
But I don't mind paying more. -
• #24
MrSmith Bill, you have been both real and fake so does this mean you are bisexual?
Well, according to willski, I am neither, so I am a eunuch, I guess. I'll be around to clear up the mess, tho.
Ah, Tofu. What a big mouth that boy has.

I am not sure I agree, but what with internet arguments and the Special Olimpics, it is better to just let it be and muse over more (and less) important things over a pint, don't you think?
You have been warned......
Check the fakenger disscusion on this forum and the movingtarget website to see what ya paying. Maybe by the 26th they've worked it out...
And for those of you that don't know what this is:Alleycat
Btw, not organising this myself. Believe Wookie and twitchy are doing that (a.o.). Thanks for the resize david.
