  • have a feeling the commuto x frame is slightly out of alignment after the rear mech and wheel had an argument with a stick, throwing the mech into the wheel and snapping the aluminium hanger. new hanger has been fitted, limit stops set correctly and the shifting across the cassette is erratic.

where should i go to get the alignment checked and corrected if needed?

Sounds more like a hanger alignment than a gross frame alignment issue. Any good bike shop should have an alignment tool in their armoury, or various models available to the home mechanic from Cyclus at £22 up to Shimano at £180

  • Is it a good idea to be bending the replacement hanger?

  • A little bit is OK, it's bending them back after you've trashed them that causes snappage.

  • Cheers

Looks like I need to tweak mine a little, will have a go tomorrow when I pop into our office and workshop.

  • Whats being indrad?

  • Did the forum ever agree what DAS was in German?

  • Every time it's discussed it generates about a million paragraphs from Oliver that can be summarised as "no".

But TBH I think he's just making excuses because he doesn't like people inventing phrases and he's relying on the traditional British lack of second languages to stay one step ahead of us all.

  • I've just been out on my road bike for the first time in months and after about 10 mins my fit are completely numb and can't feel my toes, also feeling some pain. It's not the cold because I had thermal overshoes on and it's very mild today, so I'm trying to work out the cause of my problem. I don't use clipless on my everyday bike and have never had problems with my feet on that, could it be cleat position?!

  • Different shoes, possibly done up too tight.

  • could be.. I have big feet (13) but pretty long toes I think, could this have anything to do with it? Messing up cleat position? I notice as I was riding I tend to point my toes towards the ground slightly...

  • Cleat position on it's own is unlikely to manifest as numb toes, if it's going to cause trouble it's usually further up your leg. I'm sticking with poor shoe fit. By pointing your toes, do you mean the whole foot has a toe down attitude (not likely to be a problem unless you're doing it to compensate for some other fit issue, some people just prefer a more open ankle angle) or you bend your toes downward relative to the rest of your foot, clawing at the pedals (definitely a shoe fit issue, and likely to generate all kinds of problems) If it's the latter, the problem is more likely too much space in the shoe, causing you to arch your foot to fill it up.

    Anyway, internet bike fitting>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Go and see an expert who can sort out whatever your problem is.

  • True. Thanks for your input anyway.

  • My missus just indrad the ratchet on my mavic shoes. Anyone know where to buy replacements somewhere central tomorrow? Kinoko?

As far as I remember, it's been discussed twice. The problem is that you just can't translate 'to skid' into German. That's it.

  • Rutschen, according to Google, and how could that possibly be wrong?

  • If I have a bike with a 100mm stem and 44cm ctc handlebars, and swap that for a 110mm stem and 40cm bars, assuming the reach on the bars is the same, what is the difference in reach going to be?

  • Depends how wide your shoulders are, but approximately 20*sin(fuck-all) anyway.

  • I'm looking for a cheap stem to try out a shorter length, a couple of the Deda ones I've seen have a 31.7 clamp diameter, will this work with 31.8 bars?

  • Yeah, they round down, everyone else rounds up to 31.8 (or something like that)

  • ^thanks
