It's an old Felt Q650 frame, bought for beer money last year and then stuck in a cupboard. It's been powdercoated at Maldon Shotblasting and Powdercoating in blue with a sparkly lacquer, along with some motor mounts that a guy in the States laser cut for me. The 3 phase AC motor is from a Chinese trike, the electronics that control it all and help make it legal when on the road are from a genius in Canada, and the battery will be a 60v15ah LiFePO4 unit, not as light as LiPo batteries, but a lot less likely to burn my house down...
In road legal mode, it will supply 250watts at up to 15mph for about 3 hours. Anymore power than that and it has to be type approved as a motorcycle. Off road however, you can turn the wick up a bit and if desired, ramp it up to 1800watts, or about 2.4hp, it might not sound much, but its plenty on an old push bike, and about 4 times what Lance Armstrong managed to put out even when on the strongest of performance enhancing drugs...
Should be fun then...
Finished.
60volts, 20 Amps, and despite the ridiculous amount of extra mass on board, it's still surprisingly agile. I took advantage of Boris' newfound relaxed attitude to bikes on public transport this afternoon, and used the riverboat service, DLR and the cable car to explore a little of Greenwich, Canary Wharf, and the Royal Docks. Power level is selectable from legal 250W mode to 1.2kW, with a future option to up the current to 30Amps. Range and top speed yet to be explored...
I don't know where to put this so I'll put it here. This is from a car forum I'm on:
