The problem is that Kallax, with its new, thinner panels, may not be strong enough to house vinyl collections (mainly the people concerned are record collectors.) A 5x5 Expedit can safely hold approximately 1500 records with a combined weight of 300kg (and a combined value of a LOT of money.)

Ikea Expedit were an affordable, trusted solution to storage - the only other option if the replacement isn't suitable is bespoke shelving which can cost thousands more.

Also, they've been on sale for twenty years - people have planned their whole living spaces around them. I'm panic buying some Expedit this weekend....
