If I wasnt up early for a train to newcastle I would have popped out and grabbed this, would have been horrible night riding and picture though! One of my absolute favourite places in London, great date place to woo the bird. Whoever figures this out and experiences it will be very happy with the effort.

Never heard it called 'wooing the bird' before. Still, a boy in the bush is worth two in the hand.

This 'compulsory clue' thing is silly. Since when has every tag needed a clue? I've tagged loads of things without giving a clue in the past, it was fine.
Tags are sometimes easy, in that they'd be easily recognisable to quite a lot of people. So in that case why is a clue needed?
You don't really need a clue at all unless the tags aren't moving along.
This seems to be being done in the name of 'accessibility', so I leave you with this quote from Jonathan Meades.
"Accessibility means nothing more than being comprehensible to morons."

Really Foxy?
The argument for clues is very simple - without one the game is simply Do you happen to recognise this? Not a very interesting game if you don't. And most of the time most people aren't going to be able to go and get the tag - it's too far away, they are busy, the in-laws are staying. But you can still play the game, try to find the tag, even if you are not going to go and get it - but only if there is some way of finding it other than recognising it.
And every frigging tag is easy if you know it! -

^armchair tagger.

I think it is ok that there's an element of 'do you recognise this?' once in a while - if it is something relatively distinctive, with more clues if the game slows down too much. I wouldn't want this just to be a test of google powers.
And I think it is also ok if not everyone can work out every tag every time - otherwise we might as well post the location and make it a race to the tag.
(of course I'm only saying this because I found this one easy - watch me complain when I don't - obvious hypocrite is obvious)

And to be fair a lot of the clues just make places harder to find so in the end no one is happy, which is what life is all about, really.

Google-fu is weak tonight. Moar clues please.
It's really quite simple--you just go where oat44 was last tagzumped. :) -

First Draft of an updated Bike Tag Video, the distance covered to date* is...
Its all coded in R which is open source, so I’m happy to share the code if anyone wants to improve or build on the output (I’ve got a few ideas lined up for the next version).
I’ve also run some stats from the data that will share shortly.
*To the date that the map was last updated in GoogleMaps

That's so good!^
A real test of memory to recognise which tags they represent -

It's not though, half the fun for me has been working out where tags are that I don't know - figuring them out. I've definitely found tags I didn't recognise, which had no clue, but I did the research to find them - whether desk research or narrowing it down and exploring a certain area.
I don't doubt that some tags definitely need clues, but can't the tagger use their judgement on a tag-by-tag basis?
It's the blanket rule I don't like.

^^ wow! over 3000 miles of tagging so far.
Clues/no clues are both fine, as long as there are no more wiff-waff tables. -

^^ This. Both for the clue bit and the fatwa against BorisBall. I often but not always do clues. I don't always give the clue immediately. Some people will recognise a tag immediately and race off to get it no matter what you do. Sometimes we see several tags bagged in one day. If you get or don't get a particular one, does that matter? The thread is enjoyable even when you're not actively tagging.
I think nearly as many people here are irritated by clues (either by the whole principle or the ones that some people give) as like them.

Rep to Kingfisher for the movie, makes me gutted I did'nt tag the Upminster windmill on a recent ride. It just needs some Benny Hill music.
Amazing how the distance has racked up, we gotta have a 5000 or 10000 mile bike tag party/ride.

And I don't think the clue protocol needs to be rigid, if the game slows more clues are demanded and we always get there in the end.
The variation in clues adds to the fun, but I'm rubbish at the cryptic ones. I still lol at Middle of Nowhere's 'its the fucking millenium bridge' clue
