This is part one of a three thread story that will hopefully evolve over the course of the year.
I'm looking at a car that'll get 4-5 friends, 4-5 bikes and camping equipment around week-long tours in the UK and on the continent. The idea being that the vehicle has room for bikes locked in the back during the evening (when camping overnight for example) and on a rack when driving (and the camping kit is in the car).
The car needs to do some serious milage and not be adverse to following the group while on the ride.
I'm thinking something like a Mitsubishi Warrior or a Nissan Navara with a full cab and roofed pickup.
Any other ideas?

merc vito dualiner extra-long - perfect for this
5-6 seats, plenty of headroom/legroom, bikes and gear accommodated in the back, engines and running gear last well
anyway, what's your budget?

I went through a phase of contemplating this sort of thing. vee dub transporter is the conclusion I reached - lwb is the rplz vehicle I believe.

yeah i looked at those (my neighbour had one) but I'm not sure it'd be that comfy for 5 guys and a load of camping gear. I think a road-oriented car would better suit. Height in the back bight be better though.

Ooo the merc isn;t a bad idea. I'll look at that, budget wise there's no real budget other than what people would pay to rent it...

My father has a Navara and I think you would really struggle to get 4-5 bikes in the cab. It's not as roomy as it seems.

Skoda Roomster.

Renault Grand Espace.
The older plastic bodied version,
preferably the RXE* (or above) 2.2 dTi.
Some are 2002 registered.Lovingly hand crafted by mystified Matra Aerospace engineers
from Renault parts bins and plastic composite technology body panels
as a make-work scheme until the next French Government contract for fighter jets arrived.Next best option the 2.2DCi from 2002 onwards.
[* rear seats mount in adjustable rails rather than fixed positions]
