  • Looks incredible.

Great work, hope you enjoy it. So ridiculously stiff.

  • Thread name fits the bike perfectly. Can't wait to see a proper pic from the side!

  • The picture of that master link sends shivers down my spine. My super toughness snapped at the master link and I was sent blasting down a hill with no way to stop. Couldn't stop - did want to. Then again, I was foolish enough to ride brakeless in a non-track scenario. Never again!

That's the chain I rode to Spain brakeless! The fact that it didn't snap coming down from the campsite in St Sebastian fully loaded, is enough to make me consider the existance of Jeebus...

You grew out of this forum far to fast.

  • So many times I have clicked on this hoping to see it finished! Its great to finally see it complete, well worth the wait. It just needs some nice pics of it in the daylight now.

  • Hello, I'm new to the forum, but I am already amazed by this beautiful yellow creature.
When are the action pictures coming up?

  • Thank you for the complements everybody.

Eingang, it's interesting that you should say that, because that's the one thing that I thought about too after I put them together. The stem is fairly chunky and the diameter of the handle bars is fairly small, but it's not a big deal. I really like the shape of the bends and they give me the nice deep position that I wanted.
One day in the future I may change for bars stiffer than these aluminium alloy ones. I'll reconsider the options then. For now, I like it.

  • I've got some OS Deda track drops doing nothing in my garage.

  • Oh no. Here we go. :-)

Next realistic part will be another 'ring to give me more gearing options. The decision with that isn't what 'ring, (that choice is obvious) but how many teeth.

  • Fantastic thread and stupendous finale .. the Raleigh certainly does look the beast

  • Right,
The cement has had long enough, so I've just been for a little ride. There's a dead-end near mine that's quiet and reasonably smooth that I decided to pootle up and down. I was feeling a bit precious about the tyres, but I wanted to have a go. They say they can hold 220psi.
220?! What does that feel like? I doubt I need them that hard but let's give it a try.
I thought I might swop to the 15t, but decided, neah, let's leave it at 96'' and see how quickly I can get it up to speed.

Well, the answer is very quickly; as in just a few pedal revs. Amazing.
And the ride at that pressure doesn't feel hard somehow, it just feels tight.
One thing I really like about a well maintained ss/fg is how very quiet they can be. This is quite noisy. Maybe there isn't enough lube on the chain, but I think it's also something to do with how the whole bike is really quite rigid and it sort of resonates...or something. And there is quite a bit of chain suck, that should pass once the bits bed into each other. Anyway it feels great. I didn't want to get properly spinning with no brakes or lights, but now I'm itching to get it up to full speed on the track.
Negative point; I was on it for about ten minutes and I got this:

  • izumi chains are loud by default

  • In the sun:

  • Ha, I was just wondering about chasing you for more photos!

Looks good, but while you're a great builder of bikes, your photography needs work.

  • To be a *completely *pedantic twat, that thread isn't really a discussion about the quality of photographic ability, more about the composition. Sorry, but you can't have a go about his photographic skills - the man may be Ansel Adams - but you can suggest amendments to the composition of the image.

I don't post often, but sometimes I'm compelled. It's probably the England team Woy has opted for that's pushed me over the edge.

  • You must be new here.

  • really needs os bars. other than that.. wow.

  • I am. I'm getting my coat.

  • Guys, chill.
I refer you to my work in the btob thread.
    The pictures are fine.

Been daydreaming about future parts today...Mavic wheels, five spoke front, disc rear...mmm

  • I like what you've done, would just like to see a stood back, zoomed in full drive side shot with everything lining up etc a la...

The Crabonz look great, although io and disc would be next level.

The skinny bars are growing on me.

  • I know that's what you want, I was just struggling to get that today without a proper tripod.

  • I'm just too demanding, but I got quite excited to see it completed at last.

I've used a wheelie bin for support in the past, a tripod would definitely be easier.
