Be wary of ti bolt, the weight saving isn't worthwhile if you stripped the bolt.

Yes I've heard a few stripping thread incidents :(
I have a torque wrench so if any issue they'll be binned .. I can live with the extra 8g to save my skin ;)

Do ti bolts not really live up to abuse?

What do you think is going to strip first? The Ti thread on the bolt or the Al thread on the stem? ..

Thanks :) As soon as I looked at colour options there was no other choice in my mind !!
[quote=AeroRider;4115169]Do ti bolts not really live up to abuse?I've ridden few stems over the years with Ti bolts without issue so hopefully no problems on horizon .. Think the issue can be ham fisted over tightening ?

The bolt first.
By strip = snap.

Ed .. Take a look at the Pro Vibe Stem and the Vibe 7S Stem .. Everyone loves Shimano design! Both use the puzzle clamp front clamp fixation and 7000 series aluminium. However, one is carbon wrapped and comes with Ti screws .. and costs a lot more.
A grade 5 titanium bolt has a nominal UTS of 1030MPa which makes it a suitable alternative to a grade 8 or below steel bolt. The only steel bolt that your going to commercial find that is stronger is a grade 12.9 which has a nominal UTS of 1200MPa. If the bolts in your stem are stainless (and let's say they are 316 grade which is a common bolt grade) then you may want to consider that has a nominal UTS of 570MPa ..
But let's not derail the thread by hashing over ground discussed elsewhere

(Not my actual saddle image pinched off net) mine is identical minus scuffing in middle ..
Would love to achieve a sub 15lb build but may struggle.. Could have went lighter on wheel build but they will be getting serious abuse so no chances..
These are 1690g with tapes/valves so not bad
Thoughts/weight saving tips and ideas welcome :)
