I use my hearing aside from my eyes so it's not for me, but doesn't seem risky to listen to music either.
CTC did some research into cyclists listening to music, there was no link with extra accidents they could find with the data set they had. Which makes sense as car drivers don't hear much outside sounds either...it's pure sight.
My brother had his music on so loud he couldn't hear a motor agent honking at him to stop as his rear light was out though. He managed to waffle his way out of a fine anyway. Skills...!
