The entire situation is fucked. The Russians are acting out of self-interest, I think that's safe to say. But the people of Crimea may, in fact, want to be Russian, or at least, not Ukrainian. There's been very little in terms of reporting on that - it's much more through the veil of what the government in Kiev wants. However, there isn't what I'd want to call a particularly legitimate source of power in Kiev right now. I think in regard to Crimea that it's probably not far off the mark to say Kiev doesn't represent them.
