With long distance riding I prefer to concentrate on time rather than distance.
I do ride specific distances periodically as a benchmark, but usually I am more concerned with how long I can remain in the saddle, than how far I go.
If you're coming back from an injury, I think this approach would be sensible, at least initially, to avoid over-doing it.
