That track frame is very cool, also easy to do. You need to find the cheapest candles and literally just hover the frame over it. I watched my old man do it a few years ago on a bike tank but can't remember if the frame was wet or dry.
Paint-work is a really cool thing, you can experiment with just about anything. Using scrunched up kitchen foil always looks great when making a fade. 99% of home-made fade jobs suck, they don't match up and the fade line is terrible, you can get the paint looking great again if you fade them with foil. Only works on similar colours and usually metallic.
Example;
Another cool effect is using poor quality paint to your advantage. If you get a real shitty can of fluorescent paint, spray a whole frame and just before it dries spray on a single layer of quality lacquer and your final colour. The final colour will make a horrible drip mess, go everywhere and mix with your previous colour. It can either look really cool if you know what you're doing or just a mess, tis a fine line!
I have googled but can't seem to find any examples.

Someone at my old university had a Colnago MTB with that spiderweb-pollack paint, over a pearl-white frame.
Wouldn't accept any offer for it, unfortunately. It was amazing.
I want to strip and repaint my Mash. What should I do to it? I'm tempted by a fade but am uncertain on colours / decals

Are you trolling, young man?
I'd love to do the same thing on my ratty Mongoose MTB.
They way I heard it was done is a candle (or flame) was held near the paint while it was still wet. Never tried it though.
