Revolution in Ukraine: Dispatch from the Presidential Palace - YouTube
Although it's Vice, this is quite interesting, to see the level of opulance built up by Yanukovych. I'm sure he will be put to shame once we finally pull down the gates to the palaces of Britain. -

Jolly cross indeed:

Why are they interviewing MaxC and why is he wearing red trousers?

Simple people with army trucks and machine guns. OK.
If they are militia, where are they getting the kit from?
They're probably the Crimean version of the Tri-State Military Vehicle Collector's Club.

Yanukovych doing a presser at the moment saying he was not overthrown, he was 'compelled to leave'. Saying there should be an investigation into the violence - too right, who authorised those snipers, huh?
While I, too, strongly suspect Yanukovych of having been a pretty crooked customer, I find much of what went on during those protests pretty strange. I mean, I have no doubt that he would have misappropriated quite a lot of money and all that, but I would find it strange for him to have ordered sharpshooters to basically just murder people when he was trying to maintain a facade of democracy. Surely he must have known that this would immediately swing world opinion against him? This may all be answered fully somewhere, and I don't want to weave conspiracy theories, but the first casualty of war is truth--on all sides, so I don't trust the other side's version fully, either. It'll be a while before we know what really happened.

News on Twitter is that 2,000 russian troops have now moved into the Crimea

Yes, this is getting more worrying by the minute.

^^^With Oliver on this one. He was a sneaky kleptocratic fuck, but not he fits the bill as a pure sadist. I really hope he doesn't get killed during the next few weeks, because if he does all the blame will be heaped on Yanukovych while Putin gets away with whatever role he played in this.

Are chemtrails the same as the contrails which are the same as the condensing water vapour produced by combustion of hydrocarbon based jet fuels?
-
• #29038
I can see why you'd think that, but no- what happens is that the water produced by the combustion process is sucked into a separate dimension, whilst at the same time the NSA (flying alongside every single commercial jet in the world, all the time) squirt mind control chemicals into the vortex behind each engine.
-
• #29039
It's very clever if you think about it- and it probably explains the floods we've been having as someone left the door to that other dimension open by mistake.

They are exactly this.Mixed with mind control drugs by the CIA.

The splitting of Ukraine is not a surprise and was always a possibility. It's been something people have been saying is likely for a long time. Hopefully if it does happen it'll be painless as possible.
-
• #29043
yeah country splits always end up going well don't they !
just hope the eu gets the gas and the oil and the black sea port
-
• #29044
We would seem to be about to jettison Scotland, complete with strategic port+oil and gas reserves.

it's strange that when america want to invade a country they just wade right in but when russia wants to do it america get all UN'y and concerned about the locals
-
• #29047
The entire situation is fucked. The Russians are acting out of self-interest, I think that's safe to say. But the people of Crimea may, in fact, want to be Russian, or at least, not Ukrainian. There's been very little in terms of reporting on that - it's much more through the veil of what the government in Kiev wants. However, there isn't what I'd want to call a particularly legitimate source of power in Kiev right now. I think in regard to Crimea that it's probably not far off the mark to say Kiev doesn't represent them.
-
• #29048
Would Kiev ethnicly cleanse the Crimea if Russia did not anex it?
-
• #29049
Is there a river in Crimea? If there is I think I may have a very good joke to make.
Obviously the political thing happening there seems nasty, so I wouldn't say my joke is a way to solve all their issues, but it's quite clever.
-
• #29050
Denial- it's not just a river that's not in Crimea!
