You're talking about going from one relatively fast bike to another though.
Going from 47bhp to 125bhp is a lot different than going from 11bhp.
I don't think anyone's a safe, conservative rider on a 125 for too long. Pretty soon you get used to constantly ragging the tits off it. You have to learn to be conservative all over again on a big bike.
I experienced vespas and modifying so, am different to you lot. I also didn't have to wear a helmet which makes things feel really faster, IMO.
I found bigger CC bikes were more stable than the smaller bikes but then I didn't have bikes for 10 years as I couldn't get insurance as I rode bikes on my italian licence not my GB one.
