i am currently sorting out bits for the mg, to send the block/crank/etc off to the machine shop. whilst the internet is an amazing resource, the problem with the mgb is that because there is so many of them, there are also half a million different opinions on what works.
the clutch, for example. i am going for a 60 thou overbore, a pretty big cam and a fair bit of head work. aiming for a 100hp at the rear wheels (not massive, i know, but 40% up on standard). you would think that there would be a consensus on the clutch required, but no - people recommend hd clutches (basically a sherpa clutch - £80), but some say these eat throwout bearings. others recommend performance clutches (£300+) and others are adamant that the standard can handle the power. it is a real pain in the arse. it all comes down to who you talk to.
the easy option would be to stump up for the performance job and i have not skimped on anything so far, but spending three tines the amount on something if i don't need it really starts to ramp up the cost of the rebuild.
i don't know. just a rant really. I want to rebuild the engine myself, and i wwant to rebuild something strong and tight, but nothing that is too much of an animal when i want to drive it on the road. the idea was to have this as a weekend car and then build up a 2002 over time to hammer on the track. the way this is going, i might need to abandon that for a while to finish this...
Why don't you speak to my Mini mechanic regarding your engine/clutch. I'm sure he'll be happy to advise.
