I thought you could use the sleepers without cutting them. Then they will rest across a few of the boards together. Dont cut them if you can help it. The ripple effect you are getting and that is tearing the boards down is partly due to the separate weights of the braces / sandbags not being stitched together. If that weight can be spread evenly through the braces it should be stronger. I hope this makes sense. Lay them inside the triangle of the brace and through as many as possible.
