  • ^^ I actually already have some at home - I'll give it a go. Hopefully it won't pull the scabs off (TMI, sorry).

  • Christ. I wonder if I'm a lizard or something, the only chafing I've ever had are occasional blisters, although rowing has given me callouses on the undersides of my knuckles that are still there 5 years on, so I guess I have something.

    Literal HTFU :(

Hats I think it soaks off pretty well if you do find it getting stuck (although that might just soak off the scab too)

  • Just did a 5k tempo run which was a minute slower than 2 weeks ago, the only real difference was the time of day, and perhaps the amount eaten before hand, a bit worried about reading half if I can't get my legs going for 5k....

  • No worries. They're not going anywhere unless they go to someone on here. Try some on. If they fit give me £25 and they're yours. It'll just take the sting out of having to buy some more in the right size...

hey, not sure if you got my pm but i'll take these, ive pm'd you again

Completely different styles of running required.
    You'll be fine.

  • yeah, maybe you were on fire 2 weeks ago.

    not literally.

although that might make you faster.

well for a little bit at least.

  • Yeah, but my speed over 5k today was slower than my planned Reading pace!!

I suppose with a mini taper it should be easier!

I suppose worst case scenario it might be a good mental test if i blow up, miss target pace and have to continue to push!

  • Or think positively!
You'll be fine- probably just tired.

  • I blew up totally on that 10k a few weeks back but then without any change in anything or time off my running improved again, the body is a fickle thing sometimes.

  • did a 8 mile lsd run
prep for an 18 miler weekend after next,
the lad who was gonna give me challenge of keeping up has bailed,
if anyone wants to do an 18 mile navigation starting from Burley New forest Im looking for a new buddy to bang it out with, 2 hours 20 target,

  • LSD run? Sounds like an hilarious training regime. How does it work?

  • lsd = long slow distance. not nearly as trippy, unless your shoelaces come undone.

  • Long steady distance, subtle difference

Like Hatbeard says. The body is fickle. No point in over analysing these blips.

  • True, and I'm getting some new shoes today (innov8 233s) which are obviously worth at least 15seconds per km....

Based on last nights turbo session my power is also down on a few weeks ago which suggests this weeks training has fatigued me more than usual.

Rest day today and take away tonight so plenty to look forward to!

  • You cant hide from FTP tests. If theres something not chimming right you'll find out.

Need to redo mine, as a load of kids skis and ski poles fell on me, half way through my last one. Had to stop to prevent one getting into my drivechain (was on the fixed gear). Takes a while, for the memory of how absolutly horrible they are to fade, before curiousty wins out though.

  • Yep, last nights one was pretty brutal, having the suffer feat video helps keep focused though, although the music is shit and the pictures are pretty repetitive!

It would be good if someone made an app that did the same thing but over the video/music if your choice...

  • I love Sufferfest. But I tend to train to something like Rammstein. Something with an aggressive punch to get the juices flowing. So the indie stuff on the vids doesnt do it for me at all. I love the tongue-in-check stuff though.

Now that they've done a tri vid. I quite fancey the idea of doing running sufferfest vids on a treadmill. They should make some. I may even invest in my own treadmill for that.

  • Also. Completly off topic. But if you get 'The long scream' I find it compliments 'Rubber glove'. Its just a 30min TT with very little warm-up. So easy to fit in timewise. But maintaining tempo for 30mins is good mental prep for the 20min FTP test effort.

My achilles heal on the bike is maintaining effort. I can bang out big watt <60sec efforts all day. But anything over 5mins turns me to jelly. I find adding the 30min TTs has helped a lot with the tests*.

(*as well as extended climbs and real world stuff. But that is obviously not so important)

    Sorry for the derail.

    Running and stuff...

  • You're going to kill me up Dalsnibba, I've barely been on the bike.

  • hey, not sure if you got my pm but i'll take these, ive pm'd you again

Sorry, I missed this. Not sure I've got anything I can post them in. Are you in London anytime soon?

  • You're going to kill me up Dalsnibba, I've barely been on the bike.

I came out of Xmas, overweight, a pretty heavy drinker, and a full time smoker. My FTP was so low I stopped testing, and running was just something I did out of habit.

I quit smoking, lost the Xmas kgs, and cut down on the booze. My plan for the new year was to embrace my inner nerd, and train smart. Both yourself and and my riding bud have pointed out that I need to HTFU regarding my HR. So I've focused on that. Once that fell in place everything else felt easy. My threshold HR (cycling) has climbed to 160bpm, and my threshold HR (running) is 162bpm. So far this year I have set PBs (well PBs for say the last 6 years) for the following.

    Running
    1km
    10km
    local 425 step climb.
timed climb to top of local mountain (400m ascent)

    Cycling
    5sec power
    10 sec power
    15 sec power
    10min min power
    15 min power
    20 min power (FTP)
    PBs on a few 10km, 20km, and 25km routes.

Massive boast post (wouldnt be if I bothered to post times and watts etc.). But I'm pretty chuffed with myself.

I have of course peaked 3 months too early, and will die on top of Dalsnibbe once again.

  • Long steady distance, subtle difference

depends on the runner I guess :]

  • thanks to this sundays half marathon stepping in and messing up my training week already (it is on my lsd which is meant to be a 16 miler) and then swapping rest day to tuesday this weeks training is a little chaotic.

I did my strength drills on weds (6x1mile,400m recovery) and yesterday was meant to be 8 mile tempo plus 2 miles w/u c/d but as sundays race counts as a tempo effort run (well it does on the hansons plan at least) I ran 11 and a bit miles at easy pace instead but I still have a bit of a deficit on this weeks mileage (also meant to be the longest so far at 54miles) so tonight's my third 10+ miler on the trot, then 4 miles easy to loosen up tomorrow and hopefully I'll be in decent shape come sunday for the half (that's basically a taper right?).

given I ran my first half distance the other week and finished on a 7:23 min/mile I'm not too fussed about the pace will see how it goes and try not to knacker myself in the first half of the race.

    fao TW2: race. :P

You've not seen my mileage so far this year, I take it.
