  • Yeah, I think my frame is early 70s. Angles and lugs do seem to match the frame you linked me too, but the fork crown is completely different... To me, it looks to be a pretty close match to page 104 of this catalog: http://www.velobase.com/resource_tools/DownloadFile.aspx?Path=%2fCatalogScans%2fZeus%2fZEUS_102.pdf&FileName=ZEUS_102.pdf

(I used to have a much better quality colour scan of this page but I seem to have lost it...)

Will take some better photos of the lugs and seatclamp and I'm going to try snap up that zeus seat. Got some pedals coming my way soon too!

  • Im not even sure what to say about the fork crown, it looks very different but I think they are original ones. Probably before the 2000 crown fork.
Im not sure really thought But I will get some photos of various different styles soon to show you. Ive attached some photos of which I think show the same fork on a apparently Zeus frame, no idea where I got them from though.

Pedals are quite easy to find but be careful of the french threading as It me a couple sets to match the cranks!

OMG check this place out, some nice catalog scans

  • watch out for the dodgy music from that link though!!

  • Cheers. I did a bit more searching as well and the fork crown looks to be the same as this (another 'apparently' zeus frame): http://www.foromtb.com/attachments/zeus20-20-jpg.3327890/

There's more details about this build here: http://www.foromtb.com/threads/proyecto-restauraci%C3%B3n-zeus-pista.758265/page-4

The pedals I found are allegedly British thread. Hopefully I can find some old logo british thread track cranks to match them... Also, I'm pretty sure sure that my headset is much newer than my frame (2000-era) - so I'm also on the lookout for an old french thread zeus headset. argh!

  • This may be one of the most precise builds ever... :)

  • D, that link is good. Do you speak spanish? theres some key bits of info regarding where it was built.
According to the Catalgue 101, in which the frame looks identical too, you would need the Zeus Gran Sport headset.

Terrible close up but there are scans somewhere online, I still havent got round to that.

JWestland - Ah tell me about it, I can't even believe Ive been this patient for so long. Its not going to be fully 'period correct' but all spanish apart from the stem and bars/tape. Should've got that Zeus stem on ebay recently but lacked the funds :-(

  • It's very easy to overspend on items...been there/done it/etc, you can always replace the stem later, keep that saved search on :)

  • Yep, that headset looks like the business. The one I have currently looks identical to this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ZEUS-CRITERIUM-HEADSET-FRENCH-THREAD-METRIC-25X1-NEW-NOS-VERY-RARE-/260954436284?pt=Cycling_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cc218b2bc&_uhb=1 which is a steal at $250US (not..). I think I paid about $40 for mine, ha.

Don't speak spanish I'm afraid, would probably make it a whole lot easier to trawl spanish forums looking for parts if I did...

  • hi, i am thinking about letting my Zeus frame repaint.
now i wonder about the color. i was looking for examples on the web.
i tend to orange. do you have any recommendation regaring original color used at the time?
i guess my pista frame is from the 70ties..

the first blue one is mine the rest are examples

  • According to the catalogues they depend on which model/year it is, I think the main colours are red or blue with chrome forks.
In the Zeus 101 catalogue the frame is red with yellow lug details. There is no specific page for the frames though.
In the 102 catalogue it says for the 531 track frame it is available in Apricot, white, grey, blue, green, orange and red.
I think you could choose any colour really apart from black for it to be period correct. If yours was the older version with the different dropouts it would have to be a purely gloss paint job, not metallic. Ive attached some of the frames Ive saved. This one is my fav

What colour do you think you will go for?

Im hoping to have one medium blue metallic Zeus frame, one dark red metallic Razesa frame and a flouro Zeus/Razesa lo-pro.

I've got this frame below on the way to me as we speak, it sports the Martinez Heredia colours, It is the name of a shop in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid. Its the family name of two spanish riders and the name of their shop in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid. According to the person who sold it to me they bought large volumes of track frames, repainted them and used them to teach people how to ride in the velodrome etc.

  • Also what decals are you going to use?

  • first i thought about the old decals with the rounded background. and as i see on one of the Zeus pista in the catalog you posted it is used.
but i now tend to using (buying / making myself) the Zeus Letters iwht outline but no background as in the other jpgs.

i dont even know what tapy of tubing the frame has.. may it is also 531.. ??

  • Think I've got a Zeus grand sport headset and some Zeus crank bolts to get rid of, if anyone's interested?

  • The clear decals with the white letters would look good on a light coloured frame without the chrome forks. Then maybe the ones with the shiny chrome background with a frame with chrome forks.

these decals are mainly used on more modern frames I think

Its probably not worth the time to try and make your own decals unless your really good with photoshop and illustrator etc. there are plenty available to order online of good standard.
What size seatpost does your frame take? Is it light? the details make me think its of a higher build quality.

  • Spam alert! Price drop on this NOS 119mm BCD Zeus chainring (3/32 52T), now £17.50. Possibly off to eBay soon.

Nice find! Hope you got a decent price. Ive seen a few great deals on components and bikes coming from that velodrome. They were selling off a load of dura ace track wheelsets a while back for 100 a pair. Obviously didnt last long.

  • That Razesa is up there is stunning.
Been on the eye out for something like that for a while.

  • Yes Davie! Really need no one else to bid on that as postage is gonna be expensive at £27 :-(

Price was pretty decent. Not the best tubing though, Its Razesas own brand 'Nerwig 611 R'. Was hoping for 531 or something a bit better. Win some you lose some eh! At least I know its definitely from Spain.
Yeah that razesa is something special.

  • I previously had a Razesa with Nerwig tubing.
I liked it a lot. Really light and comfy. Pretty flexy. I just used for commuting, but Ive no complaints really.
I did write it off though by rear ending a car, in ultra slow motion. The impact was laughable, but it was enough to put a bump in the down tube that eventually formed a crack. So yeah - handle with care!
    Enjoy.

  • Ah haha thats fucked. That happened to me when I was younger and bruised all my groin area. Was in pain for days!
You got any photos? pre crash ones ;-)

    thx for posting the links.
i don't really like the silver decals. i probably go with the single letter decals.
here in Berlin, there are some stores which do decals and painting. i may go to velociao.com
here is a example of a restored masi pista he did
    http://www.velociao.com/2013/masi-pista/

the seatpost size of my Zeus frame is 27,0
its quite light, i don't know the precise weight, though.

  • If anyone's interested I came across this apparently NOS 531 Razesa road frame the other day, looks legit. ..Pretty rare to find Chromovelato in NOS condition & in green to boot! wish it was my size ..

loving this thread by the way :)
