From Kruse, regarding "untouchable triple goalie" and other things:
Yeah, you could do it. This is a tough issue, and it puts the introduction of an interference rule in jeopardy unless we add a crease.
The way to make this really easy and really streamline is to ban moving screens, make off ball checks illegal, and add a crease to create space in the game. But that was too much to do, and while it's the way I want the game, it may not be the way many others want it.
So we ended up with this compromise position because it was clear many wanted hits off the ball to be illegal. We wanted protection for the goalie so that the front of the net is not a complete topple fest and we wanted to set the stage for an evolution that makes it so the drop-pass-drop-pass-double-screen isn't the only way to win this game.
It ended up complicated and as you've pointed out there are ways to play now that are wholly contrary to the game we are trying to eventually create.
So what do you do? Revert back, don't try to limit contact off the ball? Maybe, huh? The season will be won the same way it has been won for the past 2 years, and the stuff we WANT to see in the game that isn't presently widespread will continue to lose out (if you're playing the odds). Or maybe we just add a crease.
I don't know.. I'm as ready to remove the interference rule as anyone. I'd just rather remove it on the grounds of real issues rather than hypothetical ones. Hard to read the future and stuff. Going to play in the GLWC in Toronto, maybe forced to make some changes after that.
