Is it me, or is there just less motor traffic on the roads? I'm struck by how casual most of the cyclists are. I think the period sunglasses help.
yes much less traffic and more road space, cycling around london in the 1980's was so much better than it is now, especially as there was so much less parked cars which now take up 2/3rds of the road width… and there just weren't the thousands of mini cabs driving around there is now.
I still use the "ambassadors" cycle route regularly, had no idea it had a name, and like the taxi up him tailgating round the corners, no change there.
