On my commute I find the majority of people wear helmets. If I stop at lights and look around at other riders. The non-helmet wearers are now in a minority in London. Does anyone else find this to be or am I just seeing things? Are there any stats on it?
Anecdotally, I agree. Non helmet wearers are definitely in the minority now on the main commuter routes.

I concur with Mike and Ru on this.

in Norwich I hardly see anyone in a helmet, apart from my brother, and he's a bell end.

Poster on Pistonheads said that he passed non-helmet wearers more closely due to them "not taking the appropriate care", i.e. he applied his own judgement to how "well behaved" the cyclist was, and then proportionally endangered them himself.

I am a close follower of the PH forum and it must be said, there are some utter bellends on there.

Sure you'll find the same sentiments there about us :)

My feeling, with no basis in fact, is that more people where helmets commuting as it's less hassle to do so as you're heading to work, you can dump your helmet and just leave it somewhere.
I wear a helmet commuting but don't necessarily bother if I'm going to the shops or cinema or something where it's more of a faff to carry.

Well he's obviously a total Rod Liddle.

Majority of cyclists I see in the New Forest are wearing helmets. Most of them are also wearing black jerseys meaning they are more likely to need the helmet but unfortunately it won't do them much good as the cars are generally going around 40mph...

Lots of employers are dicks about helmets. I don't have one and it took about 6 months for my boss and others to stop making remarks about it and just accept that I cycle hundreds of miles each month without ending up dead.
I'm sure many in the same situation would take the "wear it just to shut them up" route.

stock answer for that sort of fuckwittery is: "Tell me where i can get a helmet that'll make you drive better and i'll buy two"

Yep there was a half arsed petition in this office to get me to wear one. People were shocked at my blase attitude towards them. They gave up after a while when I made it clear that I have been cycling in London for a very long time, including several head first incidents into vehicles and am still here and intact. I think, or do I

they used to measure this every couple of years but don't bother now. The last one was in about 2010 or 11. On 2 busy commuter routes in London (Westminster) about 70% wore helmets in the rush hour. On suburban streets at other times about 20% wore helmets.
Most people don't wear helmets on my ride to work - I choose a back street route, for a faster journey. -

more of a campaign of daily hassle

Shows they care. I'd imagine most workplaces couldn't give a shit about your health.

I think more people wear helmets than not on my route. I choose a main street route for a faster journey.

i really couldn't give a shit who does and does not wear a helmet, and nor should you.

it's more of a point of interest in a thread about wearing helmets... seems valid and for once not that circular discussion

I don't give a shit. I was merely pointing out a memory of an observation. I also don't do what other people tell me so perhaps now I'll start a comprehensive study of helmet wearing statistics on my commute and post it daily just to keep my favourite thread alive. See also: Noob.

I don't care either way about helmets.
But you can get a cream for that?
