I crashed into a canal with my P2M once, it still worked fine afterwards but I needed fixing up, lol. Shimano also came out with a BB power meter patent but no further than that I think. If Shimano make a crank PM it will likely work and be available everywhere, potentially cheap but not if it's DA crank only.
