    not sure what he's doing,
    if he wants to prototype it on wood, fablab has all he needs
    shopbot for big stuff, a milling machine for small stuff, and a laser cutter
    and it's all free
    if it's metal, i remember hacman had a lathe, but he'd need training and i'm not sure about the state of it
    these are the cheap options
    and if he can wait, help with coding, and make the trip down here, he can use the robotic arm in the london hackspace

    but i've not cnc'd any metals in manchester so i'm not sure how much they'd end up costing
    but quotes were in the £50-80 when i was asking around a few years ago (take that with a grain of salt, can't remember who i asked)
    that's about everything i know about machining in mcr, and i'm sure i've not answered the question
