also seen Specialized Shiv on Evans for £850, verdict?

Is the first sentence in anyway related to the later ones?
I imagine commuting on a shiv would be fun, but you'll look like a dickhead and if you're riding anywhere urban will barely be using the aero bars, thus negating the point of having a TT bike.
In fact, you'll probably hate having to reach to the end of the extensions to change gear and end up grinding around in just the one gear. Like on your fixed.
Good fun for TT/Tri or looking like an idiot pootling about solo at the weekend though. What's wrong with a normal road bike if it's gears you're after, or using extensions on your fixed if it's aeros you're after?

Not really, but meh...
12 miles of the journey is on a long straight A road so something i can hack at high speed the whole way without giving my back any grief. I'd also be planning on using it for training on evenings/weekends so?
as i said £1000 is my price limit so i'm open to suggestions?

Thats not much money for a TT really. Slane cycles have a nice looking Argon 18 for 1.5k.

Well if im steering away from TT, Trek Madone seems as good as you can get for 1k?

anyone owned/owns one want to shed some light?

Excellent old-skool forumming.
Q: I'd like a TT bike for less than a grand.
A: You don't want a TT bike.
A: Here's a TT bike for £1500.Good work.

I would have thought that the flat black/extended forearms of a TT bike are going to be less comfortable than a well fitted road bike?
-
• #12
Full disclosure: when I was commuting that distance with lots of A road, I was doing it on a TT fixed; aerobars and track gear. I loved it all. the context of the commute is important though (and lacking from the first post); riding around town on a TT bike is stupid so point a still stands given the information available at the time.

lol, sorry, im indecisive as fuck, even on a good day.....
Trek Madone 2.1 H2 compact
or
Cannondale CAAD 10 105
seem to be the best roadies i've seen so far, are the 2 comparable or does one stand out from the other?
-
• #14
Either of those should be pretty decent, CAAD 10 probably slightly more racey geo?
But assuming its a full 105 groupset like the Madone, I'd say either would be more useful than an equivalent TT bike -

You could do better for a road bike IMHO.

When this comes up on the Roadbike thread you get the same answers. CAAD10, Canyon (can you do that on C2W?), and planet-x.
Pretty sure I usually link to a reduced BMC, or Giant. As I like their geos.

Yeah was gonna suggest canyon. My roadlites got 105 and is bappadi boopee

One advantage of the CAAD 10 locally is that ... its local, so you can go and try it out, and if it does break you have someone local to shout at.

fixed TT. You can put something pretty nice together for a grand.
-

My fixed with disc and trispok came in under that.

And they were awesome wheels to commute on.

If you aren't commuting on deep carbon then you simply are not taking it seriously.
Just started a new job, and i have to do a 18mile commute to get there. My 531 fixie build is fine but i've been intending to buy/build a new bike for a while now.
Was thinking of getting a new TT bike on the C2W scheme, like the look of the Planet x Stealth but want to know what the other options are for a similar price range (C2W means it must be 1k or less)
