Snap, been trying to figure this out myself, I think it might be possible using a mix and match headset route, I think this might work as the bottom cup but not sure http://www.biketart.com/2593/products/hope-pick-n-mix-bottom-headset-cup-h-1-5-inch-traditional.aspx
if you scroll down to the description click the Hope Pick n' Mix headset brochure it has better measurements listed, I think you need a Hope HS136 bottom cup? -

no it is not possible to untaper a tapered steerer.
and no you can not use that bottom cup in a normal head tube for 1 1/8"
your frame has to be designed specifically for tapered steerer forks. -

thanks for the answer! Do you really think it will work? But you are right if i need a bottom cup it should be the Hope HS136 bottom cup.

The headtube has to have at least 44mm internal diameter
If you have a headtube designed for an integral 1.1/8th you can make it work with an external cup but the frames geo will be affected; the headtube will be raised and its angle slackened.
The Hope docs are here - quite useful. -

Somebody on here filed his tapered forks down to fit a standard 1 1/8 head tues, not recommended at all!

yes, BUT ONLY IF YOU REPLACE THE FRAME.
I hate to bring bad news, but you can not use your fork in your frame!

Okay, it's just a shame! Thanks for making it clear drøn ;)
Hi!
I have just bought a tapered fork which measures 1"1/8 to 1"1/4.
Is it possible to modify it so it only measures 1"1/8?
Thanks!
