  • ^^I don't understand the front fork, why the ugly brake bridge?

  • got a rizla thin fork crown also

  • I quite like the aesthetic of the fork but it does have a function too

The Yamaguchi fork crown allows for a shorter head tube and a sloping top tube, increasing aerodynamics. We’ve seen this crown before on a Yamaguchi-built frame for George Hincapie’s Olympic attempt.

  • i like the seat stay work

  • yeah, it seems that True Temper does custom tubing for him

Koichi works exclusively with True Temper tubes that he has designed himself. Doug retold the story of how Yamaguchi provided a prototype tube set to True Temper that was bent by hand.

  • Shorter headtube but still has a spacer stack?

  • ignore the build and just look at the frame details

i meaning more actual finish, almost Laseresque,

  • I quite like the aesthetic of the fork but it does have a function too

I'm calling bullshit on the aero claims until I see the wind tunnel data. How does shortening the head tube improve your aeros when it is compensated by longer fork blades and steerer? Seems like the frontal area goes up, and moving the downtube away from the front tyre flies in the face of modern rigorous aerodynamics practice too, see pretty much every new TT frame in the last few years.

shortening the head tube means that you get a stiffer front end, that doesn't have anything to do with aerodynamics tho and the steerer seems to be a fitting choice of the costumer no?

  • I was talking about the (notional) steerer extension below the lower headset bearing.

  • Mind you, that viper's nest of cables in front of the head tube makes any claims about the frame's aeros moot. Have you seen how much power an exposed cable sucks out out of the airflow? It's horrifying.

  • yeah it doesn't make any sense to opt for external routing of the cables :-/
it would look much better internally (aero talk aside)

  • 10 speed hero
    0.5 Scoblebrick™ of drop
    you can't explain that

Ha, I was just thinking of the goldon days of haiku (in the meme thread) the other day.

  • ^^^also, surely any aero and performance benefits are negated as soon as you've built your bike from steel?

  • Not necessarily:

  • That build is such a shame! Beautiful frame.

  • Why is the top tube bent and why does it meet the head tube at a lower point than most?

  • Thanks!

To offer a more aero position?

Should be setup as geared pursuit?

  • The Argos was porn in it's day though, OG EEL buildz....

  • remove the fender/mudguard (always get confused what you guys use) and put normal track bars on it and it's still porn.

I would love an explanation regarding the poor aerodynamic properties of steel.

    Is air magnetic?

    You cant explan that.

  • it's not the properties of the metal i was referring to, rather the dimensions of the tubes.

  • I think the aero benefits of rider position, wheels etc,. are so much larger than those that could be taken away from the limited shape of steel tubes, that they could never be negated or cancelled out.
