Miche Primato Chainset / crank arms removal

  • Hello,

I've tried searching both the forum and Google for the answer to this, and can't find it - I'm sure this is due to my own stupidity rather than the information being unavailable...

Does anyone know which tool I will need to remove a Miche Primato chainset? I have two crank pullers, both Shimano, and neither work...

I'm aware that the actual BB, which is also Miche Primato will need a Campag fitting BB tool, which I'll get hold of, it's just the cranks I'm stuck with...

    Cheers!

  • One of these?

It's a square taper BB, for which there is only one standard, so your pullers should work: in what way don't they?

  • Yeah, that's the one!

Oh right, that's odd - I'll give them another try later and see what the problem was!

    Not quite.
The Miche is the standard threading, so any genereal purpose one such as the Park Tools BB extractor will work,
but there also exists weird French threading on things like TA cranks for which you need a specific tool.

  • What happens, or rather* doesn't*?

Doesn't the puller screw in, or doesn't it pull the crank off?

The only thing that springs to mind is that my puller has a magnetic cap, to increase the diameter of the point that presses against the BB axle (for ISIS/Octalink I think): if you leave that on, the puller will press against the crank (rather than the axle) and extract the puller, by stripping the crank threads!

    Yes, forgot about that.

  • Any good places to get a new crakset?

  • Yes, forgot about that.

That why I don't do TA or Stronglights.

If a std. Park Tools extractor doesn't fit, I would suspect the OP's Miche has previously received some grade 1 kack-handedness which has ruined the threads. But he hasn't said.

  • I guess we'll never know...
