Why on earth doesn't anyone manufacture silent/quiet ceiling pull switches?
Searched online for one and the only alternatives suggested were movement sensor switches or place a normal switch outside the bathroom.
I had to replace the one in the bathroom recently and the new one is louder than the old one. For some reason we have them in the bedrooms too, all with different decibel levels.
Ker-KLUNK.

You can fit a capacitive sensor behind the tiles, but splashes of water can trigger them.

And lose the challenge of going to the toilet in the middle of the night when your other half/housemates are asleep without waking them up?!
Pro tip; grip the string near the top, pull slowly keeping tension the whole time. Don't do what one of my friends used to do which was keep an empty pint glass next to your bed.

Are there any friendly sparky's on the forum or to be recommended that would be able to fit a 100A isolator on our incoming house supply, and not ask any awkward questions about existing wiring.

Before the suppliers cutout or after?
And where is that smell of ganja coming from?
-
• #2957
hehe after the suppliers cut out, its actually for our kitchen
The house is otherwise wired safely and to modern regs, it more a case of not asking questions about who did this. -

I'm not sure they'd look at the server room and believe it
Diable, let me speak to the other half and get back to you - basically we need a 100a isolator for the kitchen, the current setup isnt great.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a really hard wearing floor paint....?
I have spent two weekends meticulously burning old floor paint off a staircase and sanding with decreasingly course grit paper, then hoovering and washing the wood so the surface is well prepped for either paint or varnish, and our lass has decided she wants white paint.
I have spent a while researching and can't seem to find a hard wearing floor paint that is universally recommended.
Almost all the customer review have a "don't but this shit" comment or two.Anyone got any experience with this...?

Tippex?

Tippex wouldn't be particularly hard wearing.
And it would discolour pretty quickly. -

Anything terrifically toxic should do the trick.
Check into what warehouses and loading docks are painted with. -

How much to you want to spend?
I work for London Underground and we use pretty bomb proof for our machine room (escalators) floors that is Sika 2540 w but it is a right pain to use.
For myself I have used the floor paint from Selco's who have a good selection but have found on wood that the paint does scratch. Though if you held on to some you could always make good scratches as they happen -

I was toying with the idea of epoxy paint, which would be the desired finish.
But;
a - I don't seem to be able to find it in white. Loading bays and plant rooms are usually greys or reds and that's what's available
b - I'm pretty sure it would disagree with my asthma for quite some time.
c - It would cost twice as much.
d - In my reading I did find a forum where someone was complaining about the fact the previous owners of her house had painted the floorboards with this stuff and she wanted natural wood and it was a fucker to sand away. So maybe that is a consideration.Current thinking is:
Primer
Couple of coats of Ronseal diamond tough floor paint (which has mixed reviews)
Then a coat or two of yacht varnish.Still not 100% sure though

Something easily available to consumers that has fairly good reviews that you don't mind redoing in future?

In a plant room I would have thought you wanted zero VOC?

No way, plant rooms demand fumes.
Further to the paint, just lay down the most eco friendly white paint you can find, let it age gracefully and tell her it's a "ratt" finish that is all the rage in Marthaland these days.

Stairs- you'll want to put a carpet on them the second or third time you slip down them.
I'd try to head off the "oh shit, this is going to hurt" moment by installing a stair carpet before an impromptu skeleton-bob-without-the-skeleton session.
In which case you can use any old wood paint.

Foot-square carpet tiles glued to your slippers, save a fortune, you're welcome.
Just thinking out loud...
