^ I think that tends not to be true for most modern cable-sets as the cable tends to be coated anyway, and a lube can often dry out and gum up?
missed the end of your post, light/dry teflon lube drys and forms a very light coating on the cable, no gunge, no gum, just smooth responsive and sharp braking.
I would never reccomend wet lube or grease for this application...
