  • it's a commuter, not a cx bike.

  • I know, but the OP has said he intends to use it for winter fun. Which in my book is cross.

    Anyway, commuting in London eats components too.

  • Also, pompetamine forks are like £50 - where do you get carbon disc forks for that?

    Just meant you could probably pick up a Kinesis DC37 and a basic Cane Creek headset for not much more than a Chris King and the Pomp fork.

  • YMMV but I think it makes more sense to use cheap components and replace them more frequently, than use expensive ones and have to replace them at about the same rate.

    My sentiment exactly, no matter how much you look after your chain, it'll wear out in the end.

    Also, pompetamine forks are like £50 - where do you get carbon disc forks for that?

    If you're really in a budget, Cane Creek 40 headset and that fork will keep the cost down under £100 easily.

  • Cheers for fork links - kenesis look good, think i would prefer straight steel though. Thanks for advice - I don't mind paying for a better chain, if i'll get more life from it (I'll also get everything near enough trade price through a friend)- will probably stock up on cheap sprockets early!

    Also - I live in Edinburgh.

  • incl. import tax would probably work out similar to kenesis..

  • Not on a budget necessarily - just don't want to pay too much more for a fork than what the frame cost me (for now)

  • I've got a pair of Canondale fat boy alu forks, recko they'd be any good?

    Could look pretty cool.

  • nice, but I don't really want canti bosses, and I'm trying to keep the theme as black as poss. Thank you though!

  • I'm quite handy with a file and a rattlecan... (;

  • Is the Hobbit for sale?

  • Yeah, the Tange fork is nice. I was looking at a Salsa fork for mine at one point. Was pretty similar design but it was the weight that put me off. Do you know how much the Tange fork weighs? Couldn't see a weight in the description.

  • It would definitely be between 900-1000g being a steel disc fork.

    You be hard pressed to find a steel disc fork for less than 900g.

  • Just built up the rear wheel after dinner, looks and sounds superb! The new pro2 42 tooth ratchet from hope is snappy too. Here's a wee pic (with my '72 bianchi pista and my Van Nicholas tucked away in the background..) Also, i am aware the tire tread is backwards - i'll fix that later.

  • Also - looks like I'll be able to seal the cyclo X king's with stans- run it tubeless! It adheres to the sidewalls really well. Rims are 2014 Mavic XM819's

  • The new pro2 42 tooth ratchet from hope is snappy too.

    You wont need one of these trust me;

  • Wheels!

  • Work almost finished - need to tape bars and cut the rear hose. will probably get rid of that red top cap. The brakes are amazing so far!

  • Looking good .. I've put few hours onto my hylex and they are spot on ...

    If I'm not mistaken this pic is looking from bike co-op ?

  • indeed

  • Done!

  • Nice! But your bars need to be rotated a bit upwards then your levers a bit down.

  • not sure about the gold chain, but other than that it looks real nice.
