Carbon or Alloy frame

Posted on
  • I want to build a new summer bike and cant decide what type of frame to have carbon or alloy ? I love the look of a naked carbon frame. But alloy certainly looks more robust are carbon frames really as delicate as i have been led to believe. I have never owned a full carbon bike so have no idea how much it differs to alloy ? All points of view welcome thanks

  • Depends on how much you want to spend. Classifieds have a CAAD10 (aluminium) frame listed which would build into a cracking bike with decent group set and wheels. Better than the majority of lower / mid range carbon unless you get a bargain.

  • Carbon.

  • Depends more on what you wanna use it for (plus how much money there is to spread).

Carbon frames being super fragile is a bit of an early 2000s thought - things have really come on since then. Obviously they are never going to be as tough as steel/alloy.

  • Carbon is nails these days - unless you take to it with a hammer it'll be fine.
