Awesome, thanks for stepping up to the mark Bristol!
One question, is the exclusion of the 5/6th due to a clash with the rumoured 'Non-Elite' tourney in Manchester?
I ask because the 5/6th happens to be one of the few dates I could possibly make it and to be honest would be a little put out if I could not play because of a tournament that has not even been made official.
Naturally it is about choosing the date which suits most people and not just myself. However, I would hope that the UK Champs would take priority in the calendar in order to achieve this.

hows does a tournament become official? Surely everyone works round the dates the organisers want...?

I think it's more a case of if it's 'officially' the UK Champs. I don't know who decides that. If it is, then we need to do it in a reasonable amount of time to allow for qualification for the Euros, I assume.

Currently unsure regarding what the dates issue is. Checking...

^^^If there is another bid we can hold a vote. However based on the feedback I've got that looks very unlikely, so by default Bristol will be the host.

the comment was more in response to this:

obviously its awesome that Bristol are looking to put on the UK Champs, especially early in the year so it is sorted before the euros

Ah. Sorry.
OK. Date to be confirmed by next Monday at latest. If there's no disagreement I'll assume this'll be UK Champs, but if people don't think it's suitable then no worries.

Nice bristol

I can't see there being great opposition to it. I think it is great that you guys have taken responsibility and was just trying to start a discussion about dates.
-
• #11
Sounds good, would need to ask the Euros guys about spot allocations too.

Could the last Weekend in March, the 29th and 30th, be an option?
Not much going on then. Still time to plan before and after the tournament, especially if there is going to be a second euros qualification event for the UK.

Assuming this all revolves around my availability (as does everything to be honest) I have to work on the 22nd March, so lets have it after that.
-
• #14
Ha. At least pretend that there are other benefits.
-
• #16
So what's the date? I need to make plans for end of March, beginning of April.

this^

• #18
To be confirmed by Monday. I'm afraid the co-organiser's gone away and I need to speak to her first.

OK. We're going with 5th-6th April. It's pencilled in at the sports centre, but it'll be properly confirmed over the course of this week.
Sincere apologies to anyone this process has messed about. Please consider it an issue of ignorance rather than malice on my part.
Registration will open either late this week or early next (I'll give advance notice). Full teams to be registered, then payment to follow within one week to confirm the place. As previously mentioned, places will be capped somewhere between 28 and 32 teams. Confirmation of this will be provided when we announce the registration date.
Hope that's all ok. Any questions ask away.

Who's doing the UK champs this year? Bristol?

I'll second Bristol if they're up for it. Brilliant facilities FTW!
**UK Champs Proposal
**
In the (apparent) absence of other interested parties, Bristol is happy to put in a bid to host the 2014 UK Champs.
Please note that we’re planning on holding a tournament anyway, so if you think this should not be the UK Champs, but still want a tournament to happen, that’s fine. Also if you were thinking of holding it and just hadn’t let on yet then we’ll (probably) be happy to defer).
Location
St Pauls Sports Academy, Bristol
Dates
5-6 April 2014. Please note likely late finish on the Sunday (9pm-ish, depending on numbers).
(subject to final confirmation from sports centre).
Cost / Games
Approx £45 per team. Number of games depends on numbers, however we’re likely to need to cap not much higher than 30, to allow for 5 swiss rounds and a 24 team double elim.
Facilities
Two large, grippy, fully boarded (to shoulder height) courts, as used at last year’s Bristol Open and the Eurobench competition.
Toilets, showers etc. As befits a sports centre.
Downsides – strictly no alcohol to be consumed on site. Mild faff getting in and out with bikes (we won’t have an open gate this year).
Accommodation
Local camping available at small site with space for up to 10 tents. TBC, but once dates are confirmed we’ll book it out.
Limited accommodation with local players.
A couple of decently priced hostels (Full Moon and Rock & Bowl Motel).
Experience
Bristol’s run a few things in the past, and we have had offers of support from experienced folk from other scenes.
Any questions please ask. Otherwise please can someone tell me how it gets decided if this is approved or not.
Thanks,
Paddy.
