I found the drag up to the beach highly unpleasant last year but
a) I was incredibly tired (it's probably actually downhill, although the headwind didn't help)
b) I couldn't see any other riders ahead or behind me
c) I thought I had another 10 miles to go, due to thinking it was 123 miles total
The bumps before that though were quite amusing for the collective groans as they came into view.
