Did they play the new ruleset? Was it enforced?
Did people understand the rules? Was there a lot of blocking?

Had a really good weekend, thanks to the hosts for an awesome tourney. Incredibly frustrating that we couldn't get the results we deserved but I guess that's just the way it is sinetimes :).
New rules weren't in place, to be honest the reffing was pretty hit and miss at times, was only really stepped up for the final few games. -

I was also disapointed with the Reffing, first day, refs were way too shy. Sunday was better in second half of the day when Hugo and Ben stepped up. Having some long discussions through the WE, I think everyone still need some time to adjust to these rule and get used to it. It certainly wasn't automatic enough in everyone's head, specially about the interference rule. Hugo and Ben thought it would be easier to have a main ref concentrated on the ball action and the second ref was handling all the out of ball blocks, screening and checks, I think it trully made a difference in the final games as you say Shane.
But I trully think it would be easier for everyone if players wouldn't play like dicks. Final games felt very untasty to me, and really hard to watch, I don't understand how anyone would want to start playing polo watching this. Outlaws come back was the only thing worth watching and getting excited about.
Josh really played calm and clean polo, good job buddy.

Reffing is a tough job and players trying to game the rules doesn't help. We need more players to step up and ref. The current status quo sucks - organisers have to run around asking peeps if they want to ref and more often than not it's the usual suspects that ref.

To be fair tho, the screening rule is not only bullshit but would be incredibly hard to enforce for the first time at a tourney like this.
As for hard to watch polo, fucking with keepers is getting ridiculous. If you've gone two or three down to a 'lesser' team, comebacks should be with skill. Don't get me wrong, i love a clever goalie hook, but five in the box and slashing the way to a goal is just shit. Same for clinging to boards like a bitch, why aren't people tapping for this?Anyway, back to the tourney. I'll admit i had my own little strop when we were eliminated. I feel we were beaten in a game by goals created unfairly. Im no saint, but kamikaze dolphin slaps, and mallet on bar ends, not cool, even if accidental. If refereeing was at a higher level for whole tournaments not just finals, there would be higher respect for decisions made and less defiance.

Congrats to Call me baby also who had a very good run on sunday, Outlaws made a great comeback in final. Too bad it didn't pay. I surely hope everyone present had a great time because I so did, and everyone from Rouen as well. It is awesome to host a tourney like this. That people are whiling to travel from so far away and in hard conditions just to attend these 3 days of fun. Saturday night at the bar was trully awesome again. Thanks everyone and I really hope we'll see you soon in Rouen.
ps: it was a great ending for Mo's stay here, who's next ? ;-)

It felt like we were playing the old ruleset to be honest (except for the small increase in the amount of ball jointing).
The new ruleset is harder to understand and is quite a lot to take in... personally it was something of a relief that we were playing to some sort of hybrid old/new ruleset, but it was very difficult to understand what was/wasn't being called. Maybe it'll sink in with time, but currently it feels like everyone is a little baffled by it all?!
But I trully think it would be easier for everyone if players wouldn't play like dicks.
Players need black and white lines to play within, we don't have that currently. Also, be the change you want to see... some of the Hooks plays/moves were pretty cringe-worthy! It's also worth pointing out that players like Luca have mastered the physical side to the game and are more-often-than-not playing perfectly within the rules.
When everyone wants to win, the "don't be a dick" rule isn't enough, hopefully the new rules will lead to a better/cleaner game as the season progresses?
Rules aside, this weekend was a tonne of fun, thanks so much, although all my clothes now smell of red wine, oops.

Great weekend and nice to see everyone again! Good weather and some good parties. Outlawz were awesome, it was great fun playing you 4 times! Rouen killed it again, thanks to everyone involved.

As a not-playing-that-much-polo-anymore-player the discussion about the reffing and the rules makes me think. We played a lot of games these two days, against many teams. None of the teams really played like dicks against us (For me, and only for me, I don't know what greg an robin think about this). /// Yes, sometimes I had to stay on my bike even after a dolphin tale on me and sometimes I had to be a dick because I felt cheated by a player so I decided to kick him off to show him what he did to me a few seconds before ///.
But I guess (and hope) that we, as Monseigneurs, weren't dicks and it's why no one played like asshole against us.I join woods about the "But I trully think it would be easier for everyone if players wouldn't play like dicks."
And I join jonno about the "Also, be the change you want to see". Not about the Hooks (especially because I didn't really saw their games because we were waiting for ours so I can't say for this tourney, I promise) But about every players. we can see too many players who shout at the ref right after they took a dolphin or whatever and be the biggest asshole when they want to score that last fucking goal that will save them from being out.
But, I'm not the better person to talk about it. I left Hooks because of this. Because of the bigs lasts games of every tournaments that weren't "bike polo" anymore for me. I miss so much what was bike polo before. Some good guys, often friends who used to play on and outside the court. I'm not a winner, I don't really mind winning or loosing, I just want to play good and fun games, like the epiphanie. this year was awesome for me. I wasn't even mad after loosing the final of the looser bracket (you all know it, even if it's a good game, you hate the team that made you out). Anyway, I don't know if it will help or anything, that's just my point of view. I'm not arguing or whatever. I saw real good games during this tournament, and some shitty move. The reffing was terrible the first day and way better for the lasts games. But still, if everyone started playing bike polo instead of trying to do anything hoping the ref won't see an "illegal action", it would be way better to watch and to play.
Woods is laughing reading this (Yep I can hear you :) ). -
