I have local (unconfirmed reports) of one rider deceased at 09:45 for a cyclist hit by a tipper truck. There are two incidents close together - Vauxhall Bridge and Millbank. Not sure which one is the unfortunate person, if this is true.

This is crazy but I know the cyclist involved and the bike as it used to be mine (blue Raleigh Arena). The rider involved purchased it off me and I only found out about the crash when he messaged me about a week ago wanting a receipt as he had a crash and could claim the price of the bike back if he had one.
I saw some pictures of the crash and needless to say was shocked to hear it had happened to him and also to see a picture of my ex bike completely flattened on the Evening Standard.
Basically the rider collided with a HGV had life threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital but thankfully has now made a full recovery!
My condolences to all those who have died on the roads and their families...

Really good to hear he's better. I get a bad feeling when a helicopter is involved.
Do you know how the collision hapened? Was the HGV left turning?
I hate that bit of the road. A few of us almost got taken out by a left turning taxi just before there yesterday. He decided to turn and indicate at the same time after beign sat in traffic. Luckily he stopped when he heard our shouts.

I don't know too much about how the accident happened and didn't want to ask him too much about it as he had been through enough but I think that's how it happened. HGV turning left and the cyclist was probably caught in its blind spot. I think the damage to the bike seems to fit this sort of crash too.
Yeah I know I'm really glad we didn't have another fatality it could have been so much worse. I'm very surprised and of course relieved that he made a full recovery and had no lasting injuries as by the sound of things it was a very severe crash.
This morning at about 9:30 at the corner of Thorney Street and Millbank (between MI5 and Pizza Express) a rider down by the looks of it.
Looked very serious, ambulance and police on scene. Both carriage ways closed so that the air ambulance could land (the police who let us cycle down Millbank told us to exercise caution as there may be a helicopter in the road).
All I could see was what looked like a metallic light blue bike in the road. Couldn't see what type it was . Couldn't see if another vehicle was involved.
I hope the rider is OK.
