Dang! Every Victoire is coming out bang tidy. Despite butters short stem

At least they understand physics. Short stems are better, for everything, except going in a straight line.

I like that bridge.

And the short stem.

Short stem => using your mallet in front of your bike is more of a stretch.
The sweetspot in stem length vs trail is a negative correlation. Low trail + short stem = twitch city, wrist sprains. More trail => more dive => more jackknife.
Short stems also mean you impinge on your knee space when turning sharply.

And before Beagle wades in, that is an intentionally unbalanced argument that suits me as the user of a 12cm stem.

Sure, tell me how your radially-spoked wheel was a logical choice for a polo bike with a front brake.
I could explain that ^^ to you with diagrams, but you'll probably ignore anything which undermines your previous decisions so you'll keep making similar mistakes.
-
• #10689
hey, it was his forks that failed, not the wheel.
-
• #10690
yeah, because the fork wasn't designed to take that radially spoked wheel. what he should have done is reversed the polarity and hack the dot matrix in the forks heat treatment phase to unlock the high modulus rebound capabilities because 26" is better than 700c and anyone using anything other than a 120mm stem clearly has not applied logic to their polo bike.

When did this become the "argue about component choice" thread?
-
• #10692
Em - are you saying there is a quick and easy way to figure out the ideal length of stem for a particular frame/fork combo?
-
• #10693
As beagle would say - traction > faction.
-
• #10694
we're still trying to work out a formula to figure out when you're the perfect amount of drunk for polo.
Its somewhere between the start and the finish of a bottle of rum is as close as I've determined it. Stem length is a complete waste of time until this is solved.

b+1.

.the logic was that i bought them off Jono like that for a steal so thought I would ride them like that till they died (it didnt take long)especially. having 3 cross laced wheels instead of radial didnt really change the way I played though...

Long stems make you more like snoops.

You could calculate the forces for a given manouver, but it wouldn't be quick and easy. Expressing the change in absolute crown height through 180 degrees of steering angle would be doable, but that wouldn't take account of lean.

• #10700
Never lean.
Velvet is the sub polo brand of Victoire (same guys, but ran by Greg). This is dedicated to making bike polo specific products. You all know the forks and there are some prototype frames being tested last year. The idea is to create great but affordable products. More stuff to come this year.
