Thanks for the ride Dan and patient marshalling by Tim and Simon (sorry if i forgot anyone else!). Was good seeing some familiar faces and making new friends. Great route, can't believe i've been missing some of those lanes on my usual ride down. Will definitely be using some of that route again. Also hats off to mr and mrs hovis, was funny seeing them pull round the finishing bend on Ditchling to a round of applause, well done to you both! Lovely bike by the way! Great photos as well HoKe, you take some good shots on the move whilst riding one handed and brakeless!
Only downer for me was the impossibly long time it took to get down there. Don't think i've been on a ride before where i've spent more time on my feet than actually in the saddle. Guess I should have expected that with the numbers we had.
Also not overly impressed with some of the standard of riding on show though...at times it felt like a daytime Dunwich Dynamo ride with people bunching up on lanes and not letting cars past, fixie skiddas overtaking going downhill on wet roads they obviously hadn't ridden before, not calling out pot holes, drains etc when group riding either, just swerving wildly at the last moment. Also called a couple of guys out for not signalling on the turn off to the Beacon from Ditchling village but I think the first one was too wasted at that point to even lift his arm, oh well. The driver waiting to pull out wasn't overly impressed anyway.
I hope this isn't coming across as a rant but if the ride was on the Sunday (when it was pouring with rain) there would have been a lot of liabilities out there to look after....I like going out on group rides with new people but this is a bit of a novalty ride that i don't think i'll be going on again.
