I'm going to a taster session at the Manchester velodrome, if I take my bike will I have to remove the disk wheel cover or is it legal? (That's it in the image btw)

(Sorry if this shouldn't even be a thread)

  • Don't ask, Don't tell

  • If they are clinchers, they probably won't let you use either wheel anyway.

  • You can use clinchers in Manchester velodrome.

You won't be allowed to use those pedals, though - and the gearing looks like it might be too low. 3:1 is minimum ratio.

  • Yeah you'll need clips and you'll have to have track specific clinchers fitted. Gearing should be about 85 ish min too.

  • From what I know they recommend schwable tyres, and pedals aren't an issue as this is when I just got the bike (though it is weird that the flat pedal adaptor things on the rental bikes are allowed)

  • Rocking up to a taster session with a disc and deep front will probably garner extra attention to your bike as well, so make sure it's something they'll be happy with. No disc covers would be one of the things they'd pull you up on, as well as the above

    Xav

  • cheers for that, doesn't sound like it's worth chancing then sadly, oh well

  • You can always just ask.

  • Hire bikes aren't expensive either, removes all bike related worry! Track is a blast, sell something on eBay and have a go

  • And do you really wanna show up to a basic track session looking like you know what you're doing?

  • I used a hire bike last time, my only problem was that being a new bike it took a while to get used to,which is the reason I wanted to know if I would get away with my own

  • Measure yours up, write down some key points and set the hire bike up as close as possible to it.

  • You'd better be bloody quick if you turn up with a disc wheel.

Also - training on a disc? Sounds expensive.

  • As expensive as the piece of plastic and four zip ties

  • Have you been through the check list, 165mm cranks, approved tyres, track frame, drop bars, bar ends etc etc....

  • They can definitely be funny about bikes meeting regs, but if it looks like a track bike it should be fine. Rocking up to a taster session with disc and deep section front however, is not going to go down well. If you have the legs to back them up though, fuckit.

  • Yeah' I've ridden manc on 170mm cranks and road tyres, on a nice understated build that didn't draw attention. Rock up with a home made disc and I reckon they'll be going over your bike with a fine tooth comb.

ON the subject of discs, Dandy, I haz disc and tub, fancy a ride up to Horsforth monday or tuesday to help me with installations? Not sure how I could carry the disc to you...
