Doesn't the puller screw in, or doesn't it pull the crank off?
The only thing that springs to mind is that my puller has a magnetic cap, to increase the diameter of the point that presses against the BB axle (for ISIS/Octalink I think): if you leave that on, the puller will press against the crank (rather than the axle) and extract the puller, by stripping the crank threads!
What happens, or rather* doesn't*?
