  • Hey there Peter.

In terms of finding out which group your parts belong to the Zeus logo on the world is older, then the newer groups are the ones with the Zeus and also the Zeus 2000 parts are mostly made of titanium and have a soft matt grey look and are not magnetic.

From looking at the catalogue your seatpost looks to be from the older models, 'Tija de sillin Zeus Criterium (180 mm)' It should come in 7 parts including the actual post. The pedals seem to also be from the older catalogue but the Pista pedals had more of a sharp end to the top of the cage, if you get what I mean. They are most probably cut down road ones like RVL's. But its not such a big deal as you could always make them sharper with a dremel and some sandpaper.
Take a magnet to the headset and if it doesn't attract then its probably 2000, if not then its Criterium. Not 100% sure though.

I've looked at you pedalroom page a few times actually when researching Zeus. Your frame has nice bridge lugs where as mine doesn't :-( It also seems to be in much better condition too.

Ive found quite a few hubs on ebay, mainly overpriced but its possible to get sellers from the us to send them over to europe. I got mine from ebay.fr for about £70 but they have the cog still attached and no lockring, and also needed a service. So if you look hard enough you can get them quite cheap!

The fork seems to be different to all the older Zeus models. I think I've only seen them on the Razesa's but with a variation of a gap in the fork crown on the sides. Like this guys one. http://www.pedalroom.com/bike/razesa-pista-custom-zeus-6004
The thing is, Zeus/Razesa made frames for lots of other people, so pinpointing specifically what it is will be very hard. Ive had days when I though about branding it Razesa but then I look hard at the catalogues and images online I think its deffinately a Zeus. So its up to you really.
If I was you I would brand it a Razesa and paint it a rad two tone flouro fade with all black parts, but thats purely based on the fork. If you do brand it Zeus then it will have to go down the classic route or it will look kinda anti.

What size seatpost is it and what threading is the bb? do you also have any background info/history on the frame?
Would be very nice to see a full spanish build though.
Let me know how you progress!

Ps. Message me if you want to buy some Zeus/Razesa bar ends ;-) I give you good price!

  • Good news and bad news in terms of progression.

    Bad news

    • Zeus Catalogue I posted on the last page got lost in the post somewhere, absolutely gutted but hopefully the seller can sort me out another one. That package also came with a 46t drilled pista chainring :-(

    • Zeus Criterium headset also got lost in the post somewhere during christmas. This was for the FR Russell project but still kinda relevant. Was basically brand new and would've looked good in the collection.

    • The daddy of all saddles came up on ebay, but really couldn't afford it and dont think a saddle should cost that much money. I tried to justify it but no, wasn't happening. Better luck next time!

    **
    Good news**

    • A Zeus 165mm crankset with 4 chainrings arrived in a sweet package from Snicks. Got it very cheap but needs a good clean and polish. It came with one Campagnolo bolt which annoys me but might just sand the logo off and pretend its Zeus.

    • Arius Imperator saddle in black patterned leather on its way from España. Needs a bit of reglueling but should fix up quite well. Please excuse the sellers photo.

    • Im in the progress of hopefully gettin some Akront clincher rims (would probably only use them for road) and a 28h Zeus pista hubset.

Also if anyone has a lo-pro/pursuit/tt track frame they want to part with then hit me up, 55squareish in the curvy tube variety. Preferably with a flouro or bright paintjob. Nothing italian and under if possible the £250 mark. Im in no rush, just putting it out there in case anyone reading this has anything.

Thats all for now though. I hope your enjoying your sleep.

  • haha..
My pista crankset came also with only 4x Zeus and 1x Campagnolo screws.

I found in the last couple of weeks
a Zeus seatpost, micro fluted, and a size that fits..27,0 mm

a Arius Pista Saddle, shipped from New Jersey..!!!

another Pista Saddle, not sure which company though

Zeus Front Wheel (World Logo, and squarish font)
is think its from a Roadbike

  • In Spain we thought campagnolo was the poor mans Zeus?...

  • That orange pista saddle...are you sure it's not a Sheldon Brown "real man saddle"? ;)

  • That orange saddle is intense, I'm trying to picture it on a bike but can't see it looking good on anything but a chrome bmx. Ive got a plastic arius one too but its in spain at a friends waiting to get shipped to here along with some other bits.

Ive got one of them jerseys as it goes, I tried to bargain with the seller but he wasn't havin any of it. Should get another one for the collection and one for general use though seeing as they might not be available much longer.

  • ^ True.
I had an orange NJS Kashimax Aero for a while, but ended up selling it to a bmxer because it seemed the right thing to do!

  • The Zeus 103 catalogue that I thought was lost in the post somewhere finally arrived after 2 months.. Was very surprised to see a package from canada on my desk, it also contained a nos 46t pista chainring all nice and polished. The drillium puts my earlier attempt to shame, its very precise and all the countersinkin the same size/depth. The seller also mentioned he might be able to get some more catalogues, if anyone else is interested then give me a shout and can put you in contact or order one in for you.

Need to get myself some of that zeus gear in the last photo, theres also a page dedicated to some paintings the workers might have possibly done all featuring some sort of zeus equipment, bikes clothing etc which made me laugh. They had it all going on them guys in Spain.

  • those bags in the catalogue are great!

  • Canada always comes through!

  • Dude, I'm super jealous of all the Zeus gear that you've gotten your hand on. Here's my Zeus Pista frame that I picked up a few years ago:

My guess is that it's from around the early 70s, has french thread coming up the wazoo... I've been planning on slowly replacing the running gear with original Zeus parts, but have only done the BB, headset, seatpost at this stage. Unfortunately, Zeus parts pretty much never come up for sale here in Australia...

  • Not sure if my photo's working, here's a link: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1Mjg3o9SbJIekRjTXZmcnpCVzA/edit

  • Hate to say it champ, but that really doesn't look like a Zeus pista frame. The Campagnolo drops outs area bit of a give away...

    I could be wrong?

fork crown seems to be though..

  • Yeah, they look like a road fork, not original to the frame...

I think it might be but I can't really tell from the photo as its slightly blurry and far away. check this link out though for the dropout reference

The fork is for road unfortunately, itself is worth a decent bit in good condition I would hope but all I can say is good luck in finding a track one!!! I got a track crankset with 4 rings for cheap a while back from ebay.au and a road hub new in box, but they don't come up often. Its a case of looking worldwide and hope that customs doesn't sting you.
Does the bottom bracket shell have two gaps on the underside?
If it does its most probably a Zeus :-)

  • Yes Thrust! Ive been watching them for the past week but getting paid next week so made sure to win them. Very expensive but I would think they are worth it.

So much want, but so no need

  • Good spotting on the road fork! I do also have the the original track forks. Some previous owner had done a monstrous job drilling a brake-hole in it and I was getting it repaired when that photo was taken.

At a glance the dropouts do seem to match the one's in your photo, will try to take some better photos. No gaps under the BB shell though... :S

I did show it to a frame builder who had imported Zeus frames to New Zealand in the 70s and he immediately recognised it as being a legit Zeus. He even commented that the dropouts were Zeus, not campag... Was kind of old and batty though so I think I'll just treat his evidence as anecdotal...

  • Never said I couldn't be wrong! Good to hear.

  • Also to note: I had a spare pair of Zeus track forks... Sold them for about £30. Argh.

  • Good to hear you still have the original ones, put up some photos once its been done! The angles look very similar to this one http://velospace.org/node/44152
Could you take some photos of the lugs and seatclamp area? as it would be interesting to see the comparison to some that I've seen.
I would like to think its the older version Zeus track frame. As the newer ones had the Zeus pista ends. And the way I think main way to tell if its a Razesa branded frame is the curvy 'R' on the seat stay eyes. The fork crowns tend to be different and the dropouts are sometimes Gipiemme. Don't take this as gospel but its a rough guideline to identifying them.

Chris.. I can't believe that you sold them for £30, I'm gutted to not have them :-(

In terms of progress there hasn't been any really. Ive got a box in the process of being sent here with loads of stuff Ive sourced in spain. Including a pair of clinchers which will pretty much complete the build.. well nearly!

Also just won this off evilpufferfishbay and should clean up nicely

One more thing, would it be cheating to get some custom Zeus caps made? seeing as they cant be thard to replicate to a good standard.
