Weird is not necessarily bad or good. I just don't enjoy what he's doing. The "joke" is paper thin - some sort of unique understanding of an event or thing which he then runs with and relies on his eccentricity to deliver (which is largely him staring at the camera in an uncomfortably close, close-up). If you're going to rely on your character to deliver whatever it is you're delivering, then you're going to rely on people liking that character for the thing to succeed.
Although, it may be my Scottish racism.
