Pick up your machine in question. Give it a Chuck Norris like shakedown stare, then inspect said files, if they haven't organized themselves Alphabetically by label release then by date, then do a war cry and smash it till you see powder. It's the only way.
I found media player to not be too bad for vast amounts of music. Especially EP's and singles. (I'm looking at you Beatport) Buying individual tracks really made a mess of the only thing that's generally impeccably organized on my computer. Music.
Took me a while, but in the end, I organized the mess of tracks by date of creation. As in, when I made the folder, then when added to the player, it comes out dated, and within the folder, I rate the tracks by stars and frequency of plays.
This way, the folders are all laid out in a linear fashion one after the other, and I'm actually starting to remember shit like "That track? Oh yeah I got it on 03.07.2012" Despite it's relative complexity.
It's by no means even an average system to organize shit with, but I've yet to find a player (even winamp) that doesn't seem to re-arrange shit out of the blue. Oh yeah, and time....loads of it. Like...ten cups of tea and 3 tantrums worth.
Media player is out of the game as i'm os x. I do like the idea of release date though, i usually keep by release number on the label but adding a date to the folder name makes sense.
It going by label has it's rewards, when you remember so and so releases on a different label in a different year etc.
Looks like i have a lot more admin to do. Should have started this years ago.
