• ~~Hi all,

I'm working on a beater project for a friend at the moment. CSB.

I am looking for a cheap 'all silver' clincher wheelset with a Shimano freehub so I can fit a singlespeed kit onto it.

Ideally with a cassette lockring if it is not too much to ask.

Doesn't have to be true, I will get that done.

    Can pick up.

    Cheers

    Vince~~

  • I have one. Shimano 105 hubs with a 6 speed Shimano cassette on there. Can't remember what rims they are.

  • Yunousesinglespeedrearwheel?

    6 speed = Uniglide?

I have a set of very cheap wheels you could use, but not freehub.

    LOLZ at Hambar.

    That wheelset does not exist.

I have already purchased a singlespeed kit so would prefer a freehub wheelset as it will offer a better chainline.

  • well freehubs go back to 6 speed, as in uniglide is a freehub so the 6 speed 'cassette' does exist. there are 7 speed specific cassette freehubs also which were mostly on 126mm OLN axled wheels.

Is it a 130mm OLN 8/9/10 speed shimano freehub wheel you're after?

  • Cheers for the info!

I'm after either a 126mm or 130mm OLN as it is an old steel frame which will stretch.

Bidding on a couple of cheap ones on eBay at the moment...

  • Bumping just in case.

    Still looking after dem wheels'

  • Missed out on one of eBay this weekend...

Went for less than £10 :-(

Anyone else with a cheap silver wheelset with a Shimano freehub?

    Cheers

  • Have you got a cheap, silver, fixed wheelset to trade?

Just built a Winter trainer for a friend (csb) using what you're after, until a fixed wheelset comes up.

    Swapsies?

  • I would use a cheap fixed wheelset if I had a spare one but I have already purchased a singlespeed kit for £10 hence the hunt for a geared wheelset.

  • OK.

If I can turn-up a fixed wheelset to free-up the Shimano single speed one, I'll give you a shout.

Actually, does it have to be silver? I might shortly have a black one going spare.

  • I have just won these on eBay so might get something built up...

    And silver please...

  • Still looking.

I have a set at home but it is the early Shimano Uniglide hubs and these do no have internal threading to take a lockring...

    Cheers

  • Hi Vince
I have a very cool pair of wheels that you may like, the front is a premium 'Edco' Swiss hub with 2 grease posts laced to a FIR rim, very light use and aero spokes.
The rear is a 126 OLN Shimano 105 hyperglide 7 speed hub laced to a deep section Mavic CXP 30 rim. £100 + post.

  • Thanks Chris, I appreciate the offer.

I am looking for a cheap option as it is for a pub bike worth about £80.

  • ah OK Vince, I didn't realise

  • I've got a pair of 126mm Shimano 105 with Mavic Open 4 CD rims - got grey anodising, so not proper silver - for £25, picked up from Leyton (or nearby).

  • The price is great but I ideally want them all silver.

    Sorry to be a pain!
