Attention Sheep! Attention Sheep! Starbucks iMoan app using cleartext passwords. Beware of people liberating your hipster account of it's £3.60 and ordering lattes for Bob Geldof.
Honestly I can't really taste the difference between 'real' over priced coffee from an 'independent' coffee shops or the efficient machine like output of most starbucks stores.
Anyway.. starbucks sent me another voucher in the post by mistake today.
Feel free to print off as many as you like.. the contrast is slightly off go for pure white on the background.

^^ +1
When I got mine, I bought the knocktop and tamping mat set for £16. Very pleased with them and that they don't take up too much space in the kitchen: http://www.madebyknock.com/store/p3/knocktop_and_mat_set_.html

I'm one of those suckers who bought the Hario electric.
I'm willing to pay too much for something I think is purty. -

^^ I automatically scroll to the bottom of websites and just realised thats why I read news papers back to front.
TR;DR: I seem to have given a lot of thought to buying a kettle (this article is 2250 words long). I come to the conclusion that expensive basic kettles are the same as cheap basic kettles, except for price differentiation. The increase in marginal utility from purchasing a expensive kettle is not big enough compared to buying a baseline cheap kettle to warrant it. It’d be better to buy a temperature control kettle, as then the increase in marginal utility would be enough to warrant puchasing it. What do you think?

Spare parts for my Gaggia factory arrived ok (took a week to dispatch them though) and installation was straightforward apart from one of the gaskets being thicker than the original. The boiler screws in to the base and the thicker gasket meant that it was fully tight with the lever/group pointing 90 degrees to the right rather than straight on, some careful sanding down got it sorted though.
It's pulling much nicer shots now, the first few lead to a fair amount of splutters and spraying but I think that was due to the piston seals not being sealed properly. Can't tell if its the new brass piston or the lack of tiny leaks that's lead to improvements but I'm glad I gave it a decent service.
Now I just need to improve my grinder situation, currently getting by with a Porlex mini but it's not great. I think electric grinders are big/ugly and since I've got a lever machine it would be nice to continue the manual theme. I'm pretty set on getting the Lido 2 when it comes out

I also considered the new Made by Knock Hausgrind, looks like a really nice bit of kit and is cheaper than the Lido.

I'm using a bottomless portafilter with my lever machine and never get a nice central stream of coffee like this
Instead I get 3 or 4 smaller streams in various places (rarely any in the centre of the basket) and a lot of the time some of the coffee runs towards the portafilter handle and on occasion all the way along the handle (which is messy and annoying).
Any tips/recommended reading on how I can sort it? I don't think I'm getting channeling or cracks in the puck but something isn't right.
