I took it home around christmas and decided to get on with it. Getting on with it has so far yielded the purchase of a seatpost, not that sourcing a 25mm seat post was the work of a moment. It took a few moments. I also had the bb shell chased and faced, and a headset fitted which involved bodging some chemical metal into the head tube as it had ovalised.
I mocked it up today as it looked a bit big.
It's not too big, it's just right.
Tomorrow a friend brings the Ultegra 10sp group round, then I need wheels and cockpit.

Mate I bought that same bolt, it fits but I'm not at all confident.
Builds been on hiatus since Xmas, going bike shop this week hopefully for their thoughts. -

Hey noisier
So it fits the hole but you're not sure it's going to clamp the post, is that it?
-
• #6
Yeah, torqued it to a level that I wouldnt see any movement at on standard clamp and there's movement when forced. Not comfortable tightening until someone with first had experience tells me too.

^^Ooh. Is that with a 25mm post? Mine's the BBB skyscraper and needs a bit of a shove to get it in without a clamp.
-
• #9
Yeah, see my 25mm post slips in waaaay too easy. I reckon thats the issue if yours is snug.

I'll put a vernier on mine, see what it comes out at exactly. If you do the same we might get an answer.

I dug some out.

27.0 front to back, 25.0 side to side.I imagine that seatclamp will be fine for you then!

I'm missing the bolt on mine as well and will buy the one off your link, thanks. I've got a 25mm Thomson post and it is snug enough without the bolt though.
When I had one of these before I had a carbon USE Alien. Bad idea, because of the seatbolt design clamping directly on the rear of the post, it cracked badly at that point and I was lucky it all came out in one piece. Conclusion = alloy posts only for these frames.

I need to put my order in for that bolt too, always drag my feet with those less exciting elements of a build. I delayed the completion of my fixed-wheel build because I couldnt bring myself to spend £50 on missing parts for my Goldtec hubs.
Which brings me on to the wheels I've bought; Shimano RS80 C24s. My original plan was to buy some 35mm deep chinese tubulars, but with peace of mind being my peronal key to inner happiness I decided I wouldnt be able to live with a nagging doubt about their roadworthiness, and perhaps more directly, the requirement to carry a spare tyre or can of sealant. The other alternative was handbuilt Archetypes x Novatecs, I have a heavier build of these rims on my winter bike and love the low tyre pressures and the handling, but at less than £300 the Shimanos seem to offer irresistible bang per buck.
Now need to figure out the cockpit, quite fancy PRO, seeing as everything is now Shimano, but I dont think they do a 17* stem which is what I have in mind. Likely to go for 3T, I like the look of the Ergonova bar. I'll have to put the mock-up together again to figure out exact cockpit dimensions.
Noiser, I'll still take some measurements around the seat tube, should get a chance tomorrow.

Thanks.
Nice, buy it, not massively overpriced and means you can get on.
I would but I need 25cm of steerer! -
• #16
I'd love to, but it's just going on the 'nice to have' list as I have an alloy steerer fork for it.
Ordered everything I need to complete the build today. I'm off work with a knackered back so need a bit of elation / guilt conflict to keep my moods swinging. Having it delivered to work, this will make my back heal faster.

Not enough steerer for me (thank god)

Congrats on finishing! (Hopeful I will this weekend!)
Finished for now, or finished finished?
-
• #20
Well, finished finished, but I would like a white OG flite saddle and a look full carbon fork when funds allow.
I'm genuinely surprised by how light it feels, all my other bikes are robustly built steel jobs. Looking forward to caning it up some hills.
Look forward to seeing yours noiser, did you resolve the seat tube problem?

haha it's meant for the open road, not chained to a turbo. Sacre bleu!

Such saddle highness!
Almost, have a shim, but it needs shortening. Cutting it myself will distort its shape, so need to find someone to help. Plus CycleSurgery retard mechanics fucked up the threadless headset install. It's de-enthusing.
Well done finishing though! -

nice! shit photos though.
once its done find a nice backdrop and reshoot! x
I was starting to feel like the only forum member without a lugged carbon Look build thread, so here's mine, if only to stop me bugging everyone else's threads with my nonsense.
Last autumn I bought this frame and fork off here for £120
