  • Boom! Many pieces, now mostly in little boxes awaiting re-assembly.
    On the down side, compression was off, I whipped the head off and there's too much piston to bore clearance. Need a re-bore - $300 including new piston, pin, little-end bearing etc. Groan. Serves me right for not taking my compression tester along when I bought it.

    Also bad, there's a big ding in the rear rim I didn't notice (twat) that I'll likely bury my head in the sand about. Also, all the cables are fubar which might explain...

    ...good news - new taper rollers in the headset in fine fettle (when I eventually got it undone,) brakes are nearly new and just need a good clean. (probably explained by shot cables.)....aaaaand I stuck the verniers on the piston and it's had a 420 big bore kit fitted! More power! just what I need.....

    Frame and cylinder hopefully going off to the powder coaters and machine shop this week.

    I still need to:

    • Religiously clean everything but the frame and swingarm.
    • Replace any knackered bolts / wiring / hoses.
    • order new chain / sprockets / control cables, rear mudguard and air filter.
    • decide whether I'm painting some or all of the engine. (probably not - maybe the clutch and gen cover)
    • decide whether I want a flashy new spanny...
    • register it.


    Mid-feb to finish? .....maybe....
